We would all love to have more time on our hands, for catching up on our favorite shows or spending time with friends. Personally, one of the things that I wish I had more time for is cooking. Between working, staying physically active, and taking time for my hobbies, I'm seemingly always short on time for making meals. And when I do have the time, particularly after a long workday, the last thing I want to do is make something elaborate for myself. I want easy, simple, and comforting — which is precisely why I turn to Costco.
The chain is known for carrying plenty of products, though its comfort food offerings are some of my favorites. Many of these items can be found in the refrigerator or freezer section, and require virtually no prep at all, besides tossing them in the microwave or the oven. Aside from being easy to prepare, these items offer familiar flavors as well.
To give you some guidance, I made this list of my Costco comfort favorites. They'll give you some ideas for what to stock in your freezer or fridge for when you don't have the energy to cook, as well as creative ways to zhuzh them up.
1. Panera Bread Original Mac and Cheese
Panera Bread Original Mac and Cheese is impossible not to love. Costco sells a two-pack, giving you 3 pounds total of mac and cheese. Aside from plopping it into a bowl or a mug and reheating it, this mac and cheese can also be frozen, which is perfect for when you live far away from a warehouse and still want to stock up in anticipation of future comfort food cravings.
This mac and cheese is creamy, dense, and full of white cheddar flavor, and it's the brand I look to when I want a hearty meal that requires very little effort. The pasta is filling on its own, though if you want extra nutrients, you may want to reheat some Kirkland Signature Organic Broccoli Florets to serve alongside it.
2. Kirkland Signature Meatballs
I have eaten a plate of just meatballs for dinner more times than I would like to admit. This 6-pound microwaveable bag of Kirkland Signature Meatballs, which customers rate highly on the Costco website, is primed to satisfy those exact cravings.
Aside from the positive customer reviews on Costco's website for this product, I also included it on this list for its versatility. While you can eat the meatballs solo, you can also buy other pasta dinner essentials to create a classic comfort food spread. Costco sells plenty of pasta, which is easy enough to dump into a pot of hot water and serve with the meatballs. The warehouse grocer also sells one of my favorite pasta sauces, Rao's Homemade Marinara Sauce, which can easily be poured on top of both the meatballs and the noodles to create a satisfying, three-ingredient meal. If you prefer something handheld, stop by the bakery and grab a bag of buns or rolls to create a simple and satisfying meatball Parm.
3. Kirkland Signature Rotisserie Chicken
I would be remiss not to include Costco's acclaimed Kirkland Signature Rotisserie Chicken on this list. As someone who has unabashedly dug into a rotisserie chicken with my bare hands like a depraved cave-person, I can safely say that this is one of the most essential items any busy shopper can buy from the warehouse. It comes hot and ready, making it a great choice to pick up on your way home from work.
Aside from eating it straight from its plastic wrapper, you can also use leftover rotisserie chicken for plenty of other things. I, for one, love to toss the chilled, shredded chicken with a bit of mayonnaise and crunchy veggies to create a satisfying chicken salad, though you can also add it to a canned or prepared soup that's lacking in the chicken department or toss it with your favorite barbecue sauce to create a satisfying riff on a barbecue chicken sandwich.
4. Kirkland Signature Stuffed Bell Peppers with Ground Beef and Rice
One of the best things about Costco is all the gems in its premade food section. All you need to do is bring home a tray, follow the simple reheating instructions, and serve. The Kirkland Signature Stuffed Bell Peppers with Ground Beef & Rice is one that I can't get enough of, simply because everything you need to make a satisfying meal is within a single tray. There's plenty of flavor and protein from the ground beef, and a dose of nutrients and fiber from the peppers, and the rice rounds it out with hearty starch. Stuffed peppers are one of my favorite meals to meal-prep for the week, and it's even better that Costco carries a tray of cheese-topped peppers that just need to be baked in the oven.
Shoppers on social media comment that they are "Worth every penny." One Reddit user even pointed out that the individual components — especially the expensive ground beef — would cost way more to buy individually than to just get the tray of pre-made stuffed peppers. And when you factor in the phrase "time is money," it's easy to see what a good deal these really are.
5. Kirkland Signature Salmon Milano with Basil Pesto Butter
One myth is that comfort food has to be super heavy and dense. However, the Kirkland Signature Salmon Milano with Basil Pesto Butter proves that the best comfort foods don't require you to crash out on the couch after eating them. This pre-made meal contains salmon filets, which are pre-seasoned and come with a compound butter. You can easily toss them into the oven or air-fryer when you're ready to prepare them.
Folks have taken to social media sites, like Reddit, to share their appreciation for this meal starter. One Reddit user noted that the fish bakes in about half an hour, and while it's more expensive than if they prepared all of the components themselves, it's still a superior alternative to fast food that's easy to make. For a full meal, consider serving it alongside basic stovetop steamed white rice or some roasted veggies.
6. Main Street Bistro Scalloped Potatoes
When I looked up the definition of "comfort food" in the dictionary, I could have sworn that scalloped potatoes were listed right there. Seriously, you can't tell me that these cheesy, baked potatoes aren't both delicious and comforting. And with Reser's Main Street Bistro's Scalloped Potatoes, you can have a side of them on your table in absolutely no time. It only takes nine minutes in the microwave to cook them, and you don't have to grate any potatoes yourself — which is arguably the most arduous and time-consuming part of making homemade scalloped potatoes.
I have tried enough store-bought boxed scalloped potatoes to tell you that not all brands of them are legit. But don't just take my word for it; check out all of the positive reviews this microwaveable product has. "Serve this in your own casserole [dish], and people will think you are close to a star chef," said one reviewer on the Costco website. Pair them with the aforementioned rotisserie chicken for a complete and wholly comforting meal.
7. Kirkland Signature Meatloaf with Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes
The dictionary didn't just include "scalloped potatoes" on the list of comfort foods; this Kirkland Signature Meatloaf with Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes meal was there as well! Meatloaf is a pretty thrifty dish in general, but when you don't want to go through prepping the meat mixture, baking the loaf, and basting it with a sweet sauce — not to mention perfecting a creamy mashed potato dish to serve with it — this meal sure does come in handy.
This meal's flavor is no slouch, either. "Costco meatloaf is the best I've ever had (sorry mom)," one Reddit user titled their post on the r/Costco subreddit. One commenter on the thread echoed the meal's practicality. "I love the Costco meatloaf when I don't have time to make my own and this looks delicious to me," they said. Indeed, this is one of the many Costco comfort meals that shoppers turn to on busy weeknights, and it can be elevated by serving it with some dinner rolls, fresh steamed green beans, or even a bagged salad.
8. Kirkland Signature Chicken Pot Pie
As a home baker, I can attest to the amount of time (and patience) that it takes to make a pie crust, let alone a tasty filling to go with it. So I can see the appeal of the seasonal Kirkland Signature Chicken Pot Pie, which is made with white meat chicken and sold ready-to-bake. It's a fan-favorite at the warehouse, and one customers are excited to see return to shelves each year.
This is one that's bound to both get you in the fall spirit and simplify your meal-planning routine. Folks who have been buying this pot pie for years report that, in the words of one Redditor, "it's still the best store-bought pot pie I've ever had." While folks gripe about the price of this pie, this is one that you pay for the convenience of. Other Redditors have shared that they like to serve this pie with fresh sides (it can be kind of salty, so bear that in mind), like roasted veggies or fresh salad.
9. Kirkland Signature Italian Sausage and Beef Lasagna
Is the Kirkland Signature Italian Sausage and Beef Lasagna going to be exactly like what your Nonna made? Probably not, but you will certainly come to appreciate all 3 pounds of it, especially if you don't have the time to prepare and assemble all of the components yourself. It has all the things you love about classic lasagna — flavorful beef and sausage, milky ricotta and mozzarella, and perfectly sweet-tart tomato sauce — all packed into a microwaveable or oven-ready dish.
Reddit users are quick to praise this lasagna. "I think it's amazing honestly. Great deal and [tastes] almost homemade," said one user, while another proudly said it was the "Best frozen lasagna out there" — high praise for a Costco product. Since this is such a heavy dish, I'd recommend serving it with something light and fresh. Costco sells plenty of great salads (which our taster tried and ranked), so you should have no shortage of options to choose from. Just remember to add a loaf of the Kirkland Signature Roasted Garlic Parmesan Bread to your cart so you have something to mop up the sauce with.
10. Kirkland Signature Chicken Alfredo with Penne Pasta
Chicken Alfredo is a family-friendly comfort food that will put you out on the couch for hours after eating (consume at your own risk). However, that's not to say you shouldn't still buy it — particularly the Kirkland Signature Chicken Alfredo with Penne Pasta. Layers of creamy Alfredo sauce coat chicken, penne pasta, and cheese to create a dish that shoppers love. "A lot of prepared Alfredo is not made with real ingredients. It tastes homemade and they don't skimp on the chicken," said one Redditor. While some folks on the same thread said that the Alfredo sauce is nothing special and that the cream sauce can be heavy, I can't discount the ease of popping this dish into an oven and having a kid-friendly dinner on the table in no time at all.
A heavy main dish like this one deserves some complementary freshness. And don't think that you have to prepare your own veggie-forward side dish for this one, either. You can buy a bag of the frozen Kirkland Signature Stir-Fry Vegetable Blend to serve alongside it; just pop the contents in a wok or a skillet to reheat it.
11. Nongshim Tonkotsu Ramen Bowl
If you went to college, you know that there is perhaps no comfort food quite like ramen reheated in a dorm microwave. Nongshim allows you to bring that same beloved flavor into adulthood with its six-pack of Tonkotsu Ramen Bowls at Costco. The ease of preparation here is unmatched, as they can be reheated with water in four minutes, and the taste, according to Costco customers, is superior.
"The most delicious ramen of them all," one Costco shopper said about this product on its website, while another shopper said that it tastes similar to what they would find in a dedicated ramen shop. They upgrade their ramen with a soft-boiled egg and roast pork, but, of course, it's delicious eaten right from the bowl without any accompaniments. "They are so easy to prepare but [taste] like you have spent hours preparing [them]. Every family member and every friend and their children rave about [how] delicious, flavorful, comforting the Nongshim, Tonkotsu, Ramen Bowls are," said another Costco shopper. If you need a more filling appetizer to eat with them, add a bag of the Bibigo Steamed Dumplings to your cart, too.
12. Authentic Motor City Pizza Co Detroit-Style Deep Dish Pizza, Double Pepperoni
I have a penchant for pizza – Detroit-style pizza, specifically. So it shouldn't be surprising that the Authentic Motor City Pizza Co Detroit-Style Deep Dish Pizza, Double Pepperoni made this list of my comfort food favorites. Pepperoni cups, copious amounts of cheese, a perfectly balanced sauce, and a crust that is worth writing home about make this an excellent choice at Costco. It's no wonder that our taster said that this was the Costco frozen pizza that was worth its high price tag. In a review of the best frozen pizzas at Costco, our taster said that this one, which comes in a two-pack, was perfectly bubbly and crispy, and packed a crust that beat out all of the others by a long shot.
This pizza is a meal in itself, and most people probably aren't going to resort to loading up their plate with anything other than a piece (or several). However, if you do want something lighter to eat with it, I'd recommend the Kirkland Signature Caesar Salad, which comes with packages of dressing, croutons, cheese, and a lemon wedge.
13. Kirkland Signature Smoked Pulled Pork, Rubbed with Seasonings
A good-quality pulled pork recipe can take hours to make, so when tiredness strikes, why not enjoy the Kirkland Signature Smoked Pulled Pork, Rubbed with Seasonings as an alternative? It takes under 10 minutes to prepare in the microwave (though it can be reheated as needed).
Aside from stuffing it into a bun (I'd recommend the Kings Hawaiian Rolls, which are sold at Costco) for sliders, there are plenty of other creative ways to use Costco's smoked pulled pork for simple yet hearty meals. It would be an excellent addition to canned chili, as it would add extra protein and smoky notes, or you can stuff it in your burritos for a subtly sweet flavor. Even the saddest of frozen pizzas could benefit from a sprinkle of this hickory-smoked protein, making it a must for cooks with limited time (and energy) on their hands.
14. Kirkland Signature Chicken Tortilla Soup
One prepared soup that you should absolutely never pass up at Costco is the Kirkland Signature Chicken Tortilla Soup, which is sold in a two-pack. This soup is one of the heartiest options you can get at the warehouse, and folks who have tried it have said that the brand doesn't skimp on the copious amount of white meat chicken. Unlike creamy soups, this one is not going to make you want to lie out on the couch after, as it's packed with nutrient-dense, energizing ingredients and a zesty flavor profile that will allow you to power through your workday or nighttime routine.
If you want an extra dose of freshness on this soup, consider picking up a tub of Daisy Sour Cream or a bag of Kirkland Signature Organic Tortilla Chips to crumble on top. You won't have to spend a ton of time getting it from your cart to your table, and you'll be rewarded with wholesome, fresh flavors.
15. Kirkland Signature Rotisserie Chicken Enchilada
Enchiladas weren't a comfort food for me growing up, but I can see how their melty cheese, succulent meat, and spicy sauce could be pure bliss for someone. This Kirkland Signature Rotisserie Chicken Enchilada allows you to get all of those flavors of classic enchiladas that you know and love, but in a much less time-consuming and energy-consuming format. It's one of the fan-favorite ready-made Costco meals you shouldn't skip in 2026, especially if you're after hearty flavors and a meal that can feed a crowd. The size will vary, but most portions are around 3 or 4 pounds, meaning it can not only fill your belly, but also make tasty leftovers for the rest of the week.
Folks who have tried this casserole appreciate its numerous components, which include beans, red peppers, and corn. These veggies round out the chicken and tortillas, making it a full and complete meal. However, I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to serve it alongside a salad, as its flavors can be heavy on the palate.
16. Just Bare Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks
The Just Bare Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks, Boneless Skinless get plenty of love on the Costco website from shoppers. This antibiotic-free chicken is a kid favorite, and some shoppers say it tastes like (and in some cases, is better than) Chick-fil-A's nuggets. "They taste like high end restaurant nuggets and make week night at home cooking easy, tasty and less expensive," said one Costco shopper.
These chicken nuggets go great with — none other than — french fries. Costco's Kirkland Signature Extra Crispy French Fries are a beloved option that shoppers say do indeed get crispy when they're cooked in an air-fryer. You can also sprinkle the chicken chunks over the aforementioned Kirkland Signature Caesar Salad for the ultimate comfort-food girl dinner.
