Little Debbie snacks are undeniably nostalgic. Whether tucked into lunchboxes or enjoyed after school, everything from Oatmeal Creme Pies to Cosmic Brownies have become staples of childhood snack times. While the brand's classic snacks are available year-round, the seasonal offerings give us new treats to look forward to with each changing season. In fall, this means pumpkin-spiced treats, frosted mini cakes, and familiar favorites dressed up for Halloween.

This fall, Little Debbie is bringing back 11 popular seasonal treats for a limited time. Selections include the beloved Pumpkin Delights, the soft and creamy Pumpkin Spice Rolls, and a few different brownies iced with themes to fit the season. Each as festive as the next, it can be hard to choose which snacks should get a place in your shopping cart. To determine which Little Debbie snacks are worth picking up before disappearing from the shelves, I tried all 11 seasonal offerings, evaluating each for flavor, texture, and overall value, and ranked them from worst to best.

Some recommendations are based on first-hand impressions of promotional materials and products provided by the manufacturer/distributor/etc.

11. Fall Gingerbread Soft Cookies

These Fall Gingerbread Soft Cookies are admittedly puzzling to include in a fall-forward lineup, given that gingerbread men are typically associated with the wintery December holidays. Gingerbread men weren't always a Christmastime treat, though; the cookie's history supposedly began as a year-round dessert gifted in the courts of Queen Elizabeth I. Gingersnaps and snickerdoodles certainly have their place in fall flavor lineups, so the idea could have been to offer an autumnal version of the modern Christmas-themed shape ahead of the winter months. If you're someone who yearns for gingerbread men prior to December, this product might just be worth picking up; but for me, this was last on the list.

As for taste, the treat is particularly ginger-forward, with a citrusy, bright flavor atypical of more warmly spiced gingerbread cookies. I thought I may have been imagining the citrus flavor until I read through the ingredient list and found lemon listed, an unusual addition to gingerbread cookie batter. While I appreciate the creativity, I found the flavor off-putting and wished for more cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg flavors to balance the bright ginger and citrus flavor.

10. Fall Buttery Vanilla Mini Muffins

There's nothing wrong with these moist, buttery muffins, and if it weren't a fall-specific lineup, I might have ranked them higher. The problem is that in a group of autumnal treats, these plain vanilla muffins simply fall a little flat. The only thing that makes these seasonal is the small flecks of orange, maroon, and yellow that dot the vanilla batter — like a confetti cake with seasonal colors. While cute, the muffins seem like a treat you could enjoy anytime, rather than something intentionally designed for fall.

Beyond the lack of true seasonality in these muffins, they are also a very small snack size compared to other treats. One bag contains 4 mini muffins, each about half the size of a golf ball. Growing up on Little Bites, which includes 5 beefy mini muffins in each bag, I found myself a little disappointed with the size and amount of muffins included in the Buttery Vanilla Mini Muffins packages. These are perfect for anyone seeking a small, snack-sized plain vanilla muffin, but otherwise, these are the box I'd skip in favor of more truly seasonal autumn treats.

9. Pumpkin Spice Mini Muffins

These Fall Pumpkin Spice Mini Muffins should have been everything I was hoping for in the vanilla mini muffins, but instead, I still found myself wishing they were better. To their credit, they have a warm, spiced flavor that pairs well with coffee or apple cider, and when warmed up a bit, they are an excellent fall treat. The problem is with the texture, which I found dense and dry, especially compared to the moist vanilla version.

Pumpkin purée adds moisture to desserts like cakes and pies, so muffins that include pumpkin should be extra moist. These, however, aren't made with pumpkin purée and instead include dried pumpkin flakes and spices, which changes the texture from what you might expect. It would have been tasty to use pumpkin purée and include chocolate chips for an extra sweet boost, leading to a moist, soft, tender crumb instead of the dense bites that these are.

8. Mini Pumpkin Spice Donuts

These Mini Pumpkin Spice Donuts are by far the best value of the roundup, costing just over $3 for a hefty 20-donut bag. This makes this bag less than half the price of the same amount of Dunkin' Donut Munchkin Donut Holes, which are about the same size. For that reason alone, these donuts rank higher in the lineup for me, being that you can grab a bag to share with friends or coworkers for less than $5. They are similar in texture to Donut Holes, too, with a soft but sturdy bite and a pleasant powdery exterior.

The reason I ranked these towards the bottom of the pack despite the great value is entirely due to the taste, which begins as warmly spiced and pumpkin-forward but ends up as lingering and medicinal. My husband wrote this off as typical artificial flavoring, but I countered that even Dunkin's highly processed Munchkins don't have such a strangely sweet, almost citrusy aftertaste. A product with potential that just didn't work for me, I'd likely leave this one on the shelf in favor of the other pumpkin-spice treats in the lineup.

7. Pumpkin Delights Soft Cookie

In many of my product rankings, there's a point in the list where I stop having many critical things to mention and start ranking based on which products I would simply buy again. For this list, it begins with the Pumpkin Delights, a soft cookie shaped like a jack-o'-lantern and layered with a spiced pumpkin glaze. The entire cookie tastes good, with just the right amount of warming fall spice and a punchy extra dose of pumpkin in the middle. It's undeniably autumnal and easy to eat, making it a good choice if you like pumpkin spice-flavored treats.

The reason I'd likely reach for other treats before this one is simply that these are less substantial and even a little spooky-looking at times, the stretched faces on the fronts often deterring me from reaching for them over the cute sprinkled cakes or iced football brownies. They're also the thinnest and smallest of the lineup, a noticeable downside when comparing each one side by side. Nevertheless, they are a treat that pumpkin lovers can enjoy, and one I'd reach for again if I wanted a soft, spiced cookie.

6. Chocolate Fall Party Cakes

You wouldn't think that the Chocolate Fall Party Cakes and Vanilla Fall Party Cakes are different enough to be ranked far apart from each other, and the truth is, they really aren't. The only noticeable difference between the two cakes is the icing and inner frosting, which is chocolate on one and vanilla on the other. The cakes are otherwise both the same size, with the same fluffy cake and creamy layer of frosting on the inside. The question is, then, which one is better, and how do they stack up against the other treats in the fall lineup?

I like both chocolate and vanilla equally and actually tend to gravitate towards chocolate candies and cakes, so there isn't necessarily a bias one way or another between these two treats. The chocolate icing is milky, which falls flat when paired with the dense vanilla cake inside. This cake might rank more highly if the inner cake were a rich, moist dark chocolate, which would make this treat more wholly chocolatey. As is, the cake is perfectly fine, but tastes like a packaged cake with a dense chocolate shell.

5. Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal Creme Pies

Oatmeal Creme Pies were one of the very first products invented by O.D. McKee, the founder of the massive bakery behind all of the Little Debbie snacks nationwide. Today, the bakery sells an astronomical amount of its best-selling snacks like Oatmeal Creme Pies and Nutty Buddies. It's a no-brainer, then, that the brand would develop a version using the season's most popular flavor; and of course, it's exactly as good as it sounds.

To better determine which treats deserved the top spots in my lineup, I packed up some of my favorites and brought them to share with a group of friends. Instead of telling them to rank or review the treats, I simply took note of which treats seemed to be grabbed the fastest, and which ones received notable praise. The Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal Creme Pies were a huge hit, with the only critical observation being that their size seemed smaller than it had been in years past. The flavor, otherwise, was the same nostalgic sweetness myself and my friends remembered, but with the added spice of cinnamon, nutmeg, and fresh pumpkin in the filling. It's a treat deserving of a top spot, and yet, there were others that still topped the list for me.

4. Brownie Pumpkins

As fans of the beloved and iconic Cosmic Brownie know, if there's one thing Little Debbie does well, it's a brownie. They can be a range of textures from cakey to fudgy to chewy, each offering a different way to enjoy rich chocolatey flavor. While with homemade brownies I prefer the light, fluffy texture of a cakey brownie, Little Debbie's signature fudgy version is perfect for chocolatey snacking on-the-go. They're nearly so dense that they could be considered fudge, which makes them particularly rich and perfectly sweet.

The Little Debbie Brownie Pumpkins are an excellent addition to the fall lineup because not only do they have a dense, chewy, fudgy texture and rich chocolate flavor, but they also have cute and festive pumpkins iced onto the tops. Unlike the haunting, stretched faces on the Pumpkin Delights, the faces on these jack-o'-lanterns are cleanly stamped onto fondant-like icing, which keeps its shape even when slightly melted or tossed into busy lunchboxes. Ever so slightly dry compared to another brownie on the list, I ranked this just below my top three treats.

3. Vanilla Fall Party Cakes

Ranking both Fall Party Cakes high on the list was easy; ranking the chocolate and Vanilla Fall Party Cakes against each other was a much more difficult task. I assumed the difference may be determined simply by my preference for either chocolate or vanilla, but it was a little more complicated than that. Both cakes are filled with the same vanilla cake and a creme layer on the inside, which tastes good with the chocolate, but far better with the vanilla. The vanilla icing complements the yellow cake interior in a way that the milky chocolate does not, giving it a more old-fashioned flavor.

It took me a few tastings to determine which Fall Party Cake to rank higher, and it wasn't until I returned to the cakes for a third time that I noticed myself looking forward to eating the vanilla again — and considerably less excited to eat the chocolate for a third time. The vanilla icing, yellow cake, and vanilla creme are a combination that tastes warm, sweet, and classic, and for a packaged treat, has a fresh, moist texture reminiscent of bakery-style cakes. It's a great item to stock the pantry with, and one of my favorites in the Little Debbie fall lineup.

2. Football Brownies

Perhaps the most evergreen on the list, these Football Brownies are also ironically one of the most outwardly seasonal. Shaped and decorated like footballs, the brownies take a different approach to fall, celebrating the season's biggest sport instead of the typical orange decor. In truth, the football brownies are nearly identical to the pumpkin brownies, but decorated with a rich chocolate icing instead of the bright orange of the jack-o'-lantern's face. The flavor might still be similar, but I found the footballs to be noticeably more fudgy and chocolatey, which is exactly what I love about the Little Debbie brownies.

I ranked these as my second favorite of the lineup because they are deliciously rich and the perfect size for snacking on at the end of the day. These pair well with coffee, ice cream, or hot cocoa, and can be eaten all the way through February because of football's long season. Great for bringing to Sunday watch parties, potlucks, and tailgates, these brownies are versatile and easy to pack without fear of smashing, melting, or falling apart. These were the treats I gravitated to the most in testing, which made it easy for me to rank these near the top of the list.

1. Pumpkin Spice Rolls

There's a reason I included these on my list of best pumpkin spice products this year: These Pumpkin Spice Rolls are absolutely delicious. Fans of Little Debbie's popular chocolate Swiss Rolls will recognize these cakes; the chocolate is simply swapped for pumpkin-spice-flavored cake. The cake is moist and flavorful, and the size is substantial, making these also a great value. We love picking up fresh pumpkin rolls from the bakery every fall, and these genuinely replicate the warm, spiced flavor and moist crumb of the larger cakes in a convenient snack-sized format.

These cakes also passed my friends' testing with flying colors: When I bagged and brought these over with the rest of the treats, I returned home with not one Pumpkin Spice Roll left. They were met with high praise, with compliments largely centering around the cake's soft texture, creamy vanilla interior, and warming spiced flavor. A perfect fall treat, these rolls top the list for me (and all of my friends, too).

Methodology

To determine which treats were the best of the season, I tasted all 11 treats side by side and evaluated each for taste, texture, and value. For taste, I looked for treats that were sweet but not overly so, spiced well if labelled as such, or with rich chocolate flavor where applicable. Because these are shelf-stable treats, texture is a major factor, so I ranked highly the treats with soft, moist textures most similar to freshly baked pastries. To help determine the very best on the list, I also asked several friends to sample the treats and took note of which ones received high praise and which ones seemed to go untouched.
