A home-cooked breakfast may be delicious, but every once in a while, a diner hits the spot to start off your day. Plus, with so many chains serving country-style breakfasts, a tasty morning meal is easy to find. Cracker Barrel and Waffle House are two popular chains known for their breakfast menus, but which one has the best food is the subject of a longstanding debate among customers. Both chains have extensive offerings, and while you can find some of the same items at both restaurants, comments online suggest that Waffle House's food is better.

Waffle House is known for waffles that taste better than homemade, and many customers claim the chain's breakfast takes the cake compared to Cracker Barrel's. Customers also have noticed that Cracker Barrel's breakfast isn't as good as it used to be. As one Facebook user wrote in response to which chain they preferred: "Waffle house. Cracker barrel changed and cut corners. Their biscuits are flat and tasteless." Another Reddit user said, "At least Waffle House has been consistent and stays consistent. You know what you are getting when you go." Many diners believe Waffle House reigns supreme, though each chain has something unique to offer.

What sets Waffle House and Cracker Barrel apart

There are plenty of customers who enjoy Waffle House more for the food, but there are other factors that keep them coming back. In terms of pricing, the two chains are pretty comparable. At one North Carolina location of each chain, two eggs and a side of bacon will set you back about $8 at Cracker Barrel and $8.50 at Waffle House. While Cracker Barrel does serve breakfast all day, most of its restaurants are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., though hours vary by location. Waffle House locations, on the other hand, are generally open 24 hours a day, so this might be the better option if you're looking for a late-night diner run or early-morning breakfast.

Of course, Waffle House has the best and only waffle breakfast between the two (and we even ranked it the best on our list), but if you're looking for pancakes, you won't find any at Waffle House. Cracker Barrel is the go-to spot for tasty pancake options like Cinnamon Swirl or Strawberry-Stuffed Cheesecake pancakes. Both breakfast chains have their pros and cons, but judging from the discourse online, Waffle House has an edge with its round-the-clock schedule and classic diner experience.
