One Of McDonald's Best New Drinks Of 2026 Is Packed With Nostalgic Flavor
McDonald's introduced some interesting new beverages earlier this year, and one of them immediately made it to the top of my favorites list. The new drinks were launched on May 6, 2026 and are permanent additions to the chain's drink menu. The lineup includes the Strawberry Watermelon Refresher, the Mango Pineapple Refresher, the Blackberry Passion Fruit Refresher, the Sprite Berry Blast, and the Dirty Dr Pepper. And then there is the Orange Dream, a beverage made with an orange Hi-C base mixed with vanilla flavoring and topped with a layer of cold foam. The result is a cold and creamy beverage with a blend of vanilla and citrus flavors that will immediately remind you of an Orange Dreamsicle.
If you are lucky enough to remember the Orange Dreamsicle, then this beverage is one you'll want to make a trip to McDonald's for. Popsicle made these frozen treats once upon a time, and they consisted of a bar of vanilla ice cream encased in orange sherbet. They were so good that there are plenty of recipes out there that try to replicate them, from easy-to-make smoothies to no-bake summer pies. The Orange Dream isn't frozen (but McDonald's, if you're listening, can we try that next?), however the combination of liquid and cold foam give the flavors the creamy touch they need to tap directly into Dreamsicle nostalgia.
How to enjoy the Orange Dream
There are actually two versions of the Orange Dream, one with orange Hi-C and one with orange Fanta. I take my beverages seriously, as does McDonald's — after all, the chain takes extra care to ensure its Coke stands out from the crowd — so of course I had to explore the choices. Both Orange Dreams give you a delicious citrusy vanilla flavor, but one has bubbles and one doesn't. In other words, your choice will depend on what you're in the mood for. I find the Hi-C version a great option for a sweet breakfast drink with my Egg McMuffin, while I'll opt for a Fanta Orange Dream with a burger. The Sprite Berry Blast and the Dirty Dr Pepper are both topped off with the same cold foam as the Orange Dream, but those won't give you that same nostalgic flavor of an Orange Dreamsicle.
If you drink out of the straw, you'll mostly just get the flavor of orange Hi-C with a hint of vanilla until you get close to the end. But if you want the true creamy Orange Dreamsicle flavor, you'll want to do a bit more mixing. There are two different ways to do that — either mix it all together with the straw or ditch that cheap plastic McDonald's straw altogether and sip your drink directly from the lid. Each time you take a sip, you'll get a blend of both the orange flavor and the cold foam for a drink that is sweet and creamy all the way to the bottom of the cup. If McDonald's could just figure out how to get some caffeine in there, this drink might even take the top spot away from my beloved Pink Drink at Starbucks.
