'They Kept Finding A Way Into My Mouth': Shoppers Can't Get Enough Of Costco's New Bakery Treat
While you can certainly shop for tents and oversized containers of laundry detergent at Costco, the warehouse megastore is especially well-known among its fans and shoppers for its bakery items. These are displayed fresh and always waiting for hungry customers. Fans have already sampled and shared many great bakery finds so far this year, but a new item — Kirkland shortbread cookies with Belgian milk chocolate — is gaining attention on social media.
These all-butter shortbread treats are large, square cookies with Belgian milk chocolate chunks scattered throughout. They arrive 15 to a box for $13.99, and based on what people are sharing in social media posts, there seem to be plenty to go around. While shortbread is one of the easiest cookies for beginners to bake, it doesn't hurt to step back and let the pros treat you or your holiday guests. The cookies have been a big hit so far online. "I LOVED these," stressed one Redditor on r/Costco. "Good luck not eating the whole pack." Another Redditor noted, when asked if the cookies can be frozen, "Idk ... they kept finding a way into my mouth."
One caveat: According to comments on Reddit, these cookies may not have rolled out to all warehouses yet, and they don't appear to be available online or for delivery just yet. So it might be worth making that scheduled Costco run a little early, just to check whether your local store has them in stock yet.
Fans say it's difficult to eat just one Kirkland shortbread cookie
Reactions to the new Kirkland shortbread cookies with Belgian milk chocolate have been pretty swift and eager, based on posts on Reddit, Instagram, and elsewhere. "I'm leaving work for Costco rn," one poster on r/Costco wrote. "These cannot possibly be bad." Another person noted that the box of cookies didn't even last a full week in their house.
Fans note that the cookies are large, dense, and not overly sweet, making them a rich treat to enjoy with coffee or tea. And while one person on Reddit said they were soft, another on Facebook wrote in the caption of their Reel, "I don't know why I expected these to be soft, but they're so crunchy and delicious!" They demonstrated by snapping one in half.
On Instagram, one shopper suggested that the timing of the product drop makes the cookies "perfect for holiday gatherings, dessert trays, or gifting." Not everyone, however, has been wowed. One comment on Instagram admitted, "Not going to lie, I wasn't feeling these." So while many people may feel chocolate chunk cookies are still the best cookies at Costco, others are ready to hand that award to the new shortbread with Belgian milk chocolate chunks.
