Even though Subway offers a wide array of sandwiches, both on the menu and through genius ordering hacks, there are limited or discontinued combos that fans continue to pine for. While not every sandwich makes a comeback, the company announced that its Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub is returning for the first time in over a decade.

The fan-favorite sandwich was most recently offered in 2014. Combining chopped, rotisserie-style chicken in an enchilada sauce marinade with Monterey Jack cheddar cheese, red onions, lettuce, tomato, and smoky Baja chipotle sauce, the whole sandwich is topped with Fritos corn chips for a zesty crunch. The combination of ingredients is designed to bring a variety of adventurous flavors and textures together in one Mexican-inspired sandwich.

"The enchilada sauce brings depth, the chipotle adds a little heat, and the Fritos deliver that signature crunch," Subway's SVP of culinary innovation, Paul Fabre, said in a company press release. It wasn't the only blast from the past announced: Subway is also bringing back its caramel apple cookie, last seen in 2021. If you're a member of the Sub Club rewards program (or become one), you can actually score two foot-long Fritos Chicken Enchilada Subs for the price of one from October 27 through November 8 via online orders.

Fans are glad the Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub is back, and the ad campaign gets even weirder

Fans on the r/fastfood subreddit are already geared up for the sandwich's return. More than one commenter considers it the best sandwich created by Subway, with one poster recalling it placed third on a list of "top subs of all time." While not everyone is convinced that the sauce-and-chips filling tastes good, one post at r/subway countered by responding, "we had this sub before and it's great! A real home run for Subway." Fans insist it's not a Subway sandwich to avoid. The praise doesn't appear to be solely nostalgic: Calls for the sandwich's return have popped up online over the years since 2014.

To promote the relaunch, Subway dropped a new ad tied to the company's Feed Your SUBconscious campaign featuring actor Will Arnett. If you were eating Subway sandwiches in 2014, you probably were aware of not only the Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub, but the earworm jingle from the original ad campaign: People in a variety of sunny scenarios, from a bus stop to the gym, repeated the mantra "cruncha muncha." The new ad, starring a bald-wigged Arnett, features a man microwaving his mediocre lunch, only to have his inner voice (Arnett) insist "we want this," while holding up a foot-long Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub.

To mark the moment, the company announced it's moving its celebration of National Sandwich Day to October 27 from the official date of November 3, since midterm elections in the United States might overshadow the "holiday." The company provided no end date for the Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub's availability in its news release.
