Whether you're stocking your fridge with Lunchables for your kiddo's lunchbox or you're picking a few up for yourself, there are a ton of options, and there seem to be new varieties available pretty frequently. We tested a ton of Lunchables to find the absolute best one, and we came to a clear conclusion: the Light Bologna & American Lunchable (with chocolate chip cookies, no less) was the winner.

If you, like me, have had the pleasure of enjoying a Light Bologna and American Lunchable, you already know why this was our top pick. The beauty is in its simplicity — it's not trying to be a full-on sandwich like the Uploaded Lunchables. Much like enjoying a hot dog (our taste tester noticed that the consistency of the bologna was hot-dog-esque) each bite is smooth and just like the one that came before it. The chocolate chip cookies do a nice job of taking the edge of off the saltiness of the rest of the Lunchable. While they certainly aren't anything like you'd make in your own kitchen, they have a crunchiness that's akin to a Famous Amos cookie, and the on-the-larger-side chocolate chips are a nice touch.

Why the Light Bologna & American Lunchable Stands Out

While I've never met a Lunchable I didn't like (don't judge me), it's clear why the Light Bologna & American Lunchable snagged the top spot in our taste test compared to other Lunchable varieties. The bologna is perfectly consistent, without any of the odd textures (if you've ever bitten into a Lunchable cracker stack and hit a piece of off-putting fat, you know what we mean) you might find in one of the ham or turkey versions. There wasn't a try-hard pretend smoky flavor — simply put, this Lunchable isn't trying to be something that it's not. It's not upscale, it's not a health food — it's salty bologna, salty cheese, and a crunchy, buttery cracker, stacked to perfection.

This simplicity is one of the factors that made the Light Bologna & American Lunchable beat out it's cracker-stacking (well, mostly cracker-stacking) competitors. The creaminess of the iconic yellow American cheese (compared to the bland cheddar that comes with some of the other versions) also helped our winner score some points. The bottom line: there are a ton of Lunchables worth stocking up on for your kid's lunch (don't forget to also pack a few Costco products that will instantly upgrade your packed lunch game too), but you'll definitely want to toss a couple of Light Bolonga & American Lunchables in the cart the next time you're filling your fridge.
