The Iconic Raising Cane's Side That The CEO Refuses To Order

Raising Cane's is all but a certified national sensation with nearly 900 stores blanketing the country and more than $5.1 billion dollars of sales in 2024. Part of its secret is having a hyper-focused menu. People flock to Raising Cane's for chicken tenders, which undergo a secret 24-hour marinating process and are freshly fried to order, and, of course, its namesake Cane's Sauce. Beyond its signature chicken and sauce, the offerings are pretty carb-specific, such as crinkle-cut fries and Texas toast.

However, there's one particular menu item among its small number of offerings that its founder and CEO, Todd Graves, famously does not care for: coleslaw. In an interview posted on Instagram, Joe Bonham interviewed Graves, who said he wanted the menu to have "a vegetable component to the meal." While coleslaw leaned into the whole Southern vibe, he indicated he doesn't personally care for it.

When asked for his go-to order, Todd Graves called out a Box Combo. However, he swaps the coleslaw for extra Texas toast, a common Cane's ordering hack to customize its intentionally slim menu. Other hacks include turning the fries into a whole loaded meal and spicing up your tendies with hot sauce. Graves also adds an extra Cane's Sauce, which Raising Cane's fans wax poetic about. Some say it reads like a mayo, ketchup, Worcestershire mash-up with spices thrown in.

While some customers didn't know you could make substitutions, hearing that Graves does it certainly lends credibility to the move. While the head honcho simply doesn't care for coleslaw, some Redditors suggest that a lot of people sub it out because "[Raising Cane's coleslaw] is 'meh' at best." Even if some customers aren't raving about Cane's coleslaw, its tenders and sauce are certainly enticing enough to keep 'em coming in the door. With Graves' blessing, customers can certainly feel at ease calling the shots on the coleslaw question.
