Love Le Creuset? Here Are 13 Cheaper Cookware Brands To Try
For more than a century, French brand Le Creuset has been the gold standard for enameled cast-iron cookware and bakeware. From its iconic Signature Round Dutch Oven to its lineup of cocottes, baking dishes, and serving sets, it seems like there is no kitchen tool that has not yet been Le-Creuset-ified in one of the brand's iconic and rich colors and distinctly simple ridged design.
That said, these high-quality items can be very expensive — Le Creuset's best-selling products range from $16 for a mug to a whopping $545 for more intricately designed Dutch ovens. Although they consistently rank as top performers among home cooks and chefs alike, the high cost of Le Creuset cookware and bakeware can be hard to justify.
Love Le Creuset, but don't love its price tags? There is no shortage of brands offering extremely similar products at a fraction of the cost. Whether you are searching for a Le Creuset lookalike that will match the rest of your cozy kitchen color scheme, or are in the market for a product that will give you the same quality braise as one of Le Creuset's three-figure pots, you've come to the right place.
1. IKEA
A list of discounted cookware and bakeware would be incomplete without the famed Swedish brand IKEA, which offers two enameled cast iron products in its VARDAGEN series: the 4-by-11-inch Enameled Cast Iron Pot with Lid and the 9-by-6-inch Enameled Cast Iron Pot with Lid, both holding 5.3 quarts. On IKEA's digital storefront, the former, more squat version is available for $59.99 (while a comparable 5-quart Signature Oval Dutch Oven from Le Creuset retails for $430), and the latter, taller version sells for $49.99 (the 5.5-quart Signature Round Dutch Oven from Le Creuset in a similar shade of black retails for $455).
While the Le Creuset Dutch Oven holds slightly more volume, that extra fraction of a quart costs more than nine times as much as the IKEA pot. Both the Le Creuset and IKEA products are also made from the same enameled cast iron; and although Le Creuset markets its products as the lightest-weight enameled cast iron by quart on the market, IKEA's pots are not too heavy, ranging from 11 to 12 pounds. They might not come in all of Le Creuset's stunning colors, but for the price, that might be a worthwhile trade.
2. Lodge Cast Iron
When it comes to Le Creuset doppelgangers, we are not sure you can get any closer visually than with Lodge Cast Iron products. The brand, which, as its name suggests, specializes in cast iron cookware, also carries a number of enameled products that are comparable to those at Le Creuset, including the Enameled Cast Iron 12.5 x 8 Inch Grill Pan for $59.95 on Amazon (compare to the Le Creuset Rectangular Skinny Grill for $260); the 7 Quart Oval Essential Enamel Cast Iron Dutch Oven for $99 on Amazon (compare to the Le Creuset 6.75-quart Signature Oval Dutch Oven in a similar cream color for $485); and the 3.6 Quart Essential Enamel Braiser from $40.80 to $53.99 on Amazon (compare to the 3.5-quart Le Creuset Signature Braiser from $320 to $460).
Like Le Creuset's cookware, Lodge's enameled cast iron is optimized to retain heat and prevent tarnishing. Lodge's items can do many of the same tasks as Le Creuset's, from braising boring cabbage to life to creating a craveable casserole.
3. Tramontina
Of all our chosen Le Creuset alternative brands, the top-rated bargain brand, Tramontina, offers by far the widest selection of enameled cast iron products. Prices range from $49.95 for the Bestow 10 Inch Enameled Cast-Iron Skillet on Amazon (compared to $240 for the 10.25-inch Le Creuset Signature Skillet in a similar blue color) to $155 for the Bestow 4 Quart Enameled Cast-Iron Covered Braiser on Amazon (compared to $400 for the Le Creuset Signature Braiser in a similar red color).
But Tramontina's variety does not just start and end with skillets and braisers — the brand also carries a number of other, more niche Le-Creuset-esque enameled cast iron cookware, including dome-shaped bread ovens, round-edged saucepans, and even heart-shaped Dutch ovens. If you are in the market for cookware and bakeware that is similar to some of Le Creuset's less-duped items, Tramontina might be the brand for you.
4. Emile Henry
Although French kitchenware brand Emile Henry also offers plenty of variety in items comparable to Le Creuset, one important caveat applies: none are made with enameled cast iron. Instead, many items in its collection are made with the brand's exclusive HR Ceramic (HR stands for "high-resistance"), which distributes heat and remains durable much like Le Creuset's signature enameled cast iron.
If you want a Le Creuset dupe that matches the luxury brand one-to-one in both look and material, Emile Henry might not be your pick. However, if you're open to different materials, many fans of both brands say they perform comparably. Emile Henry's HR Ceramic pieces start at $39 on Amazon for an individual-sized The Right Dish Rectangular Baker (while Le Creuset's comparable 2.5-quart Heritage Rectangular Dish retails for $64). The Artisan Bread Loaf Baker sells for about $119, while Le Creuset's comparable Signature Oval Bread Oven in a similar red color sells for $315.
5. Zulay Kitchen
Budget brand Zulay Kitchen only offers one enameled cast-iron cooking product: the Cast Iron Dutch Oven. It retails on Amazon for $55.99 to $74.99, depending on color and quart size, while the comparable Le Creuset Signature Round Dutch Oven in a similar volume range costs $364 to $575. It doesn't hurt that the two Dutch ovens look nearly identical, and that, like Le Creuset, the Zulay Kitchen version also comes in a variety of rich colors.
But the similarities don't end there. Both are made from enameled cast iron and boast top-tier heat retention (with the Zulay product especially advertising even heat distribution). Their material makes them easy to clean, safe for stovetops and ovens, and well-suited for cooking many different dishes — from no-knead bread to this foolproof pot roast recipe.
6. Hedley & Bennett
Although the two enameled cast iron cookware products from Hedley & Bennett might be some of the pricier picks on this list, they receive rave reviews from satisfied customers. They are also still significantly cheaper than Le Creuset. The 6.5-quart Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven sells for $200, compared with the 5.5-quart Signature Round Dutch Oven from Le Creuset, which is available in similar colors for $455. The 11-inch Enameled Cast Iron Skillet sells for $180, while the 10.25-inch Signature Skillet from Le Creuset is available in similar colors for $240.
Unlike many other brands on this list, Hedley & Bennett doesn't seem as intent on emulating Le Creuset's look. That said, the brands have plenty in common, including their versatility, high heat retention, durability, and construction of high-quality enameled cast iron. Notably, Hedley & Bennett makes its products with recycled iron, and they are 100% recyclable. The brand also advertises the products' double-layered enameled surfaces for ease of cleaning and a long-lasting appearance.
7. Misen
Misen's line of just three enameled cast iron cookware pieces might be small, but it is mighty. The Enameled Cast Iron Silicone Lid Dutch Oven and Grill set ranges from $259 to $289 on Amazon and compares with Le Creuset's Signature Square Skillet Grill and Signature Round Dutch Oven, which, depending on capacity and color, range from a combined price of $700 to $745. The 7-Quart Enameled Cast Iron Classic Lid Dutch Oven is $289 on Amazon, compared to the 7.25-quart Le Creuset Signature Round Dutch Oven for $500. And the 5.5 Quart Enamel Cast-Iron Braiser is $134.50 to $269, compared to the Le Creuset 5-quart Signature Braiser in a similar gray color for $450.
Compared with the cheaper alternatives on this list, Misen products are on the more expensive side; however, they are still significantly cheaper than their Le Creuset counterparts. Misen also emphasizes the chip-resistant quality of its enameled cast iron cookware, as well as its ease of cleanup. Between these attributes and the Misen products' striking resemblance to Le Creuset's (minus the silicone lids), they are worthy dupes.
8. All-Clad Cookware
Let's get the obvious out of the way: not all of All-Clad Cookware's enameled cast iron products look like Le Creuset. That said, looks aren't everything — and many fans of both brands say All-Clad's products work just as well as Le Creuset's for heat distribution, resistance to tarnishing, ease of cleaning, and durability.
If you are interested in All-Clad Cookware's enameled cast iron line, you have several options. The 4-quart Enameled Cast Iron Braiser with Lid is available on Amazon for $149.95 (compared to the 3.5-quart Le Creuset Signature Braiser in a similar dark gray color for $400). The 6-quart Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven with Lid, available for $159.95 on Amazon, is similar to the 5.5-quart Le Creuset Signature Round Dutch Oven in a similar black color for $455. All-Clad's 11-inch Enameled Cast Iron Square Griddle with Acacia Trivet sells on Amazon for $89.99, while the trivetless Square Griddle from Le Creuset comes in a similar gray color for $195.
9. Cuisinart
As it turns out, Cuisinart kitchen tools and appliances are not the only things the brand is known for. Cuisinart also offers a variety of enameled cast iron cookware and bakeware that rival Le Creuset in look and function, including classic pieces such as the Chef's Classic Enameled Cast Iron 5.5 Quart Oval Covered Casserole. It is available on the Cuisinart digital storefront for $119, while the 4.5-quart Heritage Oval Casserole from Le Creuset is listed at $140. The Chef's Classic Enameled Cast Iron 14" Roasting/Lasagna Pan is available on Amazon for $69.95, comparable to the 14.2-inch Heritage Deep Rectangular Lasagna Dish from Le Creuset, which ranges from $99 to $130.
While versatility is a consistent selling point of Le Creuset cookware, Cuisinart offerings give the French luxury brand a run for its money. For example, Cuisinart sells a Chef's Classic Enameled 2-in-1 Cast Iron Multipurpose Set, with a lid that doubles as a grill for $99.95. A product like that saves you the cost of buying multiple, significantly more expensive Le Creuset pieces, and it also gives you the convenience of two pieces of cookware for the price (and the kitchen space) of one.
10. Great Jones
Great Jones is known for its playful style and kitschy color schemes and designs. But its cookware can still hold its own against luxury cookware brands. One of the two Great Jones options is The Dutchess, a 6.5-quart enameled cast iron Dutch oven that ranges from $160 to $205 on Amazon. That's considerably less than Le Creuset's comparable 6.75-quart Signature Oval Dutch Oven, which ranges from $388 to $560, based on color. For something smaller, there's the Dutch Baby, a 3.5-quart Dutch oven priced from $119 to $165 on Amazon, depending on the color. By comparison, Le Creuset's 2-quart Le Creuset Signature Round Dutch Oven is available for $285.
Great Jones' Dutch Ovens might not be Le Creuset lookalikes, with their matte finishes and brassy, curved handles, but they have many similar virtues. Like Le Creuset, they are built to last, safe for all stovetops, and designed with aesthetics in mind. If you like Le Creuset for its durability (and its look in your kitchen and dining room), Great Jones might be the right alternative for you.
11. Made In Cookware
If you're most interested in Le Creuset's stovetop pieces, check out the enameled cast iron products from Made In Cookware, a brand that began as a small, family-run kitchen supply shop nearly a century ago. Choose from options such as the 5.5-quart Round Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven for $299 on Amazon, compared with the same-sized Le Creuset Signature Round Dutch Oven, which costs $364 to $525. The 11-inch Enameled Cast Iron Skillet on Amazon for $179 is similar to the Le Creuset 10.25-inch Signature Skillet, which ranges between $192 and $240. Notably, the brand also offers a piece few other Le Creuset alternatives carry: a 2-quart Enameled Cast Iron Saucepan, available for $199 on Amazon, comparable to the 1.75-quart Signature Saucepan from Le Creuset that sells for $245.
Made In might offer the smallest price gap between Le Creuset items, but it is a good fit for a home cook or chef looking for a high-quality product within their budget. Just be forewarned that the items can have serious heft: the 2-quart saucepan clocks in at about 6.8 pounds without any cooking liquid.
12. Caraway
Caraway is best known for its vast selection of nonstick pots and pans, but the brand also offers enameled cast iron pieces that can go toe-to-toe with Le Creuset's. Caraway offers more enameled cast iron cookware sets than many other brands, but single items include some of the larger Le Creuset-alternative products on this list.
The 8.5 Quart Enameled Cast Iron Oval Dutch Oven, available on Amazon for $285, compares to the 8-quart Le Creuset Signature Oval Dutch Oven for $515. Caraway's 12" Enameled Cast Iron Large Skillet sells for $225 on the brand's digital storefront, while Le Creuset does not even make a Signature Skillet this big, but its 11.75-inch version retails for $275.
Caraway also offers smaller versions of these enameled cast iron cookware products and other comparable items. It's a great fit if you want the same heat-retention performance as Le Creuset, with the added bonus of bigger pieces at an even lower price.
13. Goldilocks
If you are in the market for a Dutch oven (and only a Dutch oven) that reminds you of Le Creuset in both look and experience, check out Goldilocks. Of its cookware collection, the brand sells just one enameled cast-iron piece: The 6-Quart Dutch Oven. It retails for $110 on the Goldilocks website, compared to the Le Creuset 5.5-quart Signature Round Dutch Oven, which goes for $364 to $525 based on color.
Goldilocks recommends using its sole enameled cast iron product for everything from braising and stewing to searing and frying, while Le Creuset encourages fans to buy different cookware pieces for each task. Its extremely large loop handles make this Dutch oven easy to use, while its induction compatibility and tolerance for oven temperatures up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit ensure the multipurpose pot can handle the heat.
Methodology
To curate a list of cheaper cookware and bakeware brands comparable to Le Creuset, we first considered what makes an item a Le Creuset "dupe." The brands in the final list all offer products similar in design, aesthetics, function, and materials to Le Creuset items. When possible, we compared each brand's products one-to-one with Le Creuset to determine whether they were similar enough to recommend as an alternative to the luxury brand.
We considered brands only if they offered products at a fraction of Le Creuset's prices. To ensure these brands offer high-quality cookware and bakeware that was at least somewhat comparable to Le Creuset, we considered customer reviews and news media when determining which brands to feature. Prices and availability of individual products might vary based on seasonality, location, and, when applicable, the brand's digital storefront.
