Cracker Barrel is no stranger to controversy over the last few years. Who can forget the fateful logo change of 2025? On top of that, some customers have complained about declining food quality. And on top of those missteps, the Southern comfort food chain decided to remove one of the most popular orders from its menu. Yes, the Sunrise Sampler is no more, and customers aren't happy.

Some labeled the Sunrise Sampler as the GOAT breakfast, as it gave customers the opportunity to seemingly have a little bit of everything. The dish — served all day like all of Cracker Barrel's breakfast items — came with two eggs cooked to order, grits, sawmill gravy, homemade buttermilk biscuits, fried apples, hash brown casserole, smoked sausage, country ham, and thick-sliced bacon. All of this could be had at a relative bargain as well, with the price ranging from around $8 to $11 between 2015 and 2021.

Needless to say, Cracker Barrel's loyal customers had plenty to say about the disappearance of this beloved dish. "I always said that breakfast was the best thing at Cracker Barrel, as long as you went for breakfast early," wrote one Redditor. "Last time I went (2-3 years ago I think) they had taken the sunrise sampler off." Another Redditor commented, "It's gone. They removed it because they can make more money by people ordering some of those sides a la carte." That claim makes sense, at least financially, as ordering the former Sunrise Sampler individually by item comes to around $25.

Cracker Barrel and its long list of disappearing fan favorites

It's not just the Sunrise Sampler that went AWOL from Cracker Barrel with hardly an explanation. Customers have complained about sides like black eyed peas and desserts such as the baked apple dumpling disappearing as well. In fact, Cracker Barrel has a long history of eliminating some of its more popular dishes – including favorites like the Strawberries 'N Cream French Toast, the Grilled Sirloin, Fried Chicken Livers, and Sweet Potato Pancakes.

If you're one of the many customers missing the Sunrise Sampler, outside of ordering the expensive a la carte option, you can still find a few comparable dishes. Uncle Herschel's Favorite Breakfast is one option, as it comes with your choice of a breakfast meat, eggs, two to three sides (hash brown casserole, fried cinnamon apples, grits, sliced tomatoes, or steak fries), plus biscuits and gravy. Grandpa's Country Fried Breakfast comes with two eggs your way, plus a choice of country fried steak or chicken fried chicken with sawmill gravy, plus biscuits and gravy and one or two sides.

Even though Cracker Barrel's current breakfast plates offer quite a few items to mix and match off its breakfast menu, it seems like the Sunrise Sampler is the gold standard customers still long for. With all the changes this restaurant chain has experienced in recent years, you never know — maybe one day the Sunrise Sampler will shine bright on Cracker Barrel's menu once again.
