The Fastest-Moving Brand In October 2026 Is A Classic Beer — And It's Not Michelob Or Modelo
Enjoying an ice-cold beer is as American as apple pie, maybe even more so, considering that the U.S. consumes enough gallons to reach the billions each year. Although Modelo remains the best-selling beer by dollar amount and the current best-seller by volume is Michelob Ultra, a Dutch brand with an iconic green bottle could (possibly) soon be in the running based on new data from YouGov. In October 2026, Heineken was the biggest brand mover in the U.S., seeing the most "statistically significant improvements in consumer perception," according to YouGov. Heineken saw improvements in 13 different metrics that encompass three overarching areas: Media and communication, brand perception, and the purchase funnel. YouGov culled this information from surveys from its panel of more than 8 million U.S. residents.
The first area includes criteria such as brand awareness and word-of-mouth exposure, while brand perception looks at metrics such as perceived value and quality, and a brand's reputation. The third area, the purchase funnel, encompasses the journey a customer takes to purchase a product through metrics like purchase intent — the probability that a customer will purchase a product. It should be noted that the report isn't beer-specific, but rather includes companies in diverse industries across 2,000 brands tracked in the YouGov BrandIndex. Heineken has seen some other high marks in another recent YouGov survey.
How this Dutch beer is making strides
Another YouGov survey from September 2026 found this more than 150-year-old lager brand beloved by President John F. Kennedy to be the No. 1 alcohol brand based on consideration. This means that 18.4% of U.S. consumers 21 and older would consider buying the beer the next time they intend to buy alcohol. The survey was based on more than 13,190 respondents. Still, if we look at the site's overall Most Popular Beers ranking, which is based on metrics such as popularity and fame, Heineken is ranked No. 5 with Corona, boomers' 2026 favorite, in the top spot. We'll have to see if the Dutch brand moves up in the coming months.
Perhaps Heineken's improved consumer perceptions are due to its continued connection to sports like Formula 1, soccer, and tennis. The brand most recently hailed pro tennis star Serena Williams as its global ambassador for its 0.0 no-alcohol beer. Heineken has also been pushing in-person connections in its advertising, going so far as to test tech at the California music festival Coachella, which allows beer drinkers to connect over shared mutual tastes via the Clinker, a smart band that can upload music streaming data. The band wraps around its bottles and cans, alerting folks if they have shared musical interests when they clink beers. Perhaps all this is paying off, at least based on Heineken being YouGov's biggest brand mover of October 2026.
