Chick-fil-A continued its yearlong focus on "Newstalgia," or new takes on familiar flavors, in its 2026 fall menu. And what channels sweet childhood memories more than s'mores? The chain released both a frosted coffee and a milkshake version to pay homage to these classic and gooey marshmallow-filled treats in drink form. But according to our firsthand ranking of Chick-fil-A's milkshake offerings, the s'mores milkshake's cloying sweetness just doesn't make the grade.

Visually, the domed peek-a-boo lid of the s'mores milkshake offers a glimpse into the cherry-topped toasted marshmallow whipped cream goodness that beckons like a siren's call. Inside, the milkshake features toasted marshmallow syrup, chocolate shortbread, and graham cracker crumbles. But, while the texture is pleasingly thick and creamy, it's the overwhelmingly sweet, artificial marshmallow taste that is off-putting.

Perhaps it comes down to too much of a good thing with artificial-tasting marshmallow elements in both the shake itself and the whipped topping that combine into an excessively saccharine flavor overall. Regardless, the s'mores milkshake was too sugary to even finish, let alone go back for more. In fact, even fans on social media have chimed on the drink's sweetness, with one Redditor saying, "The s'mores milkshake is SOOOOO good but I'll be completely honest and say holy crap it was sooooo sweet! I liked it but no way could I finish the whole thing and that was with sharing it with my son."

Better ways to get your sweet fix at Chick-fil-A

As with all of Chick-fil-A's milkshakes, the s'mores version has a base of Icedream frozen dairy dessert (there's a legal reason why the chain can't call it ice cream) and is served in a now-standard 16-ounce cup. If you are jonesing for an icy drinkable treat to enjoy with your Chick-fil-A sandwich, you're better off ordering the winner of the milkshake matchup, which was none other than classic vanilla. This easy sipper placed at the top of our ranking for its lightness, pleasant level of sweetness, and flavor that was simpler and not muddled with extra additions.

It is clear from Chick-fil-A's 2026 fall menu offerings that the chain is leaning into sweetness across the board, even with its savory items. If you have a sweet tooth, the new chicken and waffle sandwiches that feature maple-flavored waffle buns, a honey butter spread, and syrup for dipping might be more than enough to satisfy. But, if you are in the mood for a milkshake and hope to enjoy it to the very last sip, you might want to opt for a tried-and-true flavor like vanilla, or even the runner-up strawberry, rather than the pure liquid candy vibes of the s'mores milkshake.
