Get A Burger King Burger With 10x The Flavor — Try This Sauce Swap

Sometimes even your go-to Burger King burger needs a little something extra. On days like that, we have some hacks for ordering at Burger King that you should know. One of them is to swap the standard sauces that come on the burgers (mayo and ketchup on a Whopper and ketchup and mustard on a cheeseburger) for a combination of two other sauces instead. Specifically, BK's most beloved dipping sauce — Zesty Sauce — and its BBQ Sauce.

It's a logical pairing when you think about it. Zesty Sauce is a mayonnaise-based dip typically served with onion rings. It adds a creamy richness, and zesty horseradish, while the BBQ sauce brings a little sweetness and a smokier edge. So mixing them creates a much more rounded experience.

To make it work, order your burger of choice "without sauce" and get the Zesty Sauce and BBQ Sauce on the side. From there, spread equal parts BBQ sauce and Zesty Sauce over your burger, whether it's a Whopper, cheeseburger, or plant-based burger. Of course, you can also adjust the ratio of the two sauces depending on what you like best — more Zesty Sauce will give it more tang and creaminess, while more BBQ will make it smokier. This sauce combo is very versatile and it plays well with the umami flavors of char-grilled meat but if the sauce feels a little heavy, we recommend trying it on a burger that also has pickles to bring a little acidic balance to the mix.

Get the most from this sweet and savory sauce combination

Burger King has actually used this kind of sauce combination on its own burgers in the past: the BBQ Brisket Whopper, for example, paired sweet BBQ brisket with creamy mayo. Combining BBQ sauce with mayo is a popular pairing (sometimes nicknamed "mayocue"), so we know the combination definitely works. The horseradish and mustard notes from the Zesty Sauce giving this particular mash-up an extra little bite.

While a classic Whopper may be best, there are many burgers at Burger King that offer other opportunities to experiment. On a chicken sandwich, for example, swapping out the standard mayonnaise for the Zesty-BBQ sauce combo will give the leaner meat some added richness. And if you love heat, the Loaded Jalapeño Whopper pairs jalapeños with a creamy jalapeño sauce, so adding a little sweet BBQ to that combination brings some welcome contrast to the hot peppers. And then there's the most obvious use of all: if you're ordering onion rings alongside your burger, mix your sauces together and dip them straight in.
