Carrots and celery are easily among the most versatile, commonplace veggies available, which means you'll probably need to purchase them regularly. But grocery stores don't tend to sell the lone carrot or individual stick of celery (and that'd probably be less cost-effective for you anyway). Even if you try to use them throughout the week, some of those carrots and celery are liable to go bad before you get through the whole stash.

So are you doomed to keep wasting part of your purchase as it turns brown, slimy, or gets dried out? Not if you follow a few simple tips from Chowhound's own Josh Donelson! Josh has the scoop on what's really making carrots and celery go bad so quickly and what to do to help them stay fresh for weeks instead. There's no fancy equipment or next-level chef skills needed here; just your veggies, a couple of things you likely already have laying around in your kitchen, and a few moments of your time. And, yes, snacking on fresh carrots and celery is encouraged throughout the process.
