Ben & Jerry's Debuts 2 New Pints With Extra Large Toppings

You might want to grab your favorite spoon, and maybe clear out some room in the freezer, because Ben & Jerry's is adding two new chunky ice cream flavors to their already eclectic repertoire. That's right, Ben & Jerry's, the quirky Vermont-based ice cream company that has churned out such beloved flavors as Chunky Monkey and Cherry Garcia has two new flavors to share with the world. The new flavors, announced today in a press release, are called PB S'More and Impretzively Fudged and promise ice cream fans chunky and crunchy new ice cream treats.

The first new flavor, PB S'More is a twist on the campground classic S'Mores treat, which consists of chocolate and marshmallow sandwiched between two graham crackers with the added treat of extra large chocolate peanut butter cups. In fact, these peanut butter cup chunks have the title of the ice cream company's biggest chunks to date, and for a company known for its delicious and treat-filled ice cream, that's saying something. The flavor also has a base of toasted marshmallow ice cream along with graham cracker pieces and a marshmallow swirl, to give the full campfire experience (even from the convenience of your freezer)

Impretzively Fudged, on the other hand, leans into the ever-popular combination of sweet and salty flavors. It has a chocolate ice cream base with salty pretzel swirls along with fudge-covered pretzel chunks that give the flavor an extra crunch. Inspired by chocolate bark, the flavor indulges in the time-tested combination of salty, crunchy pretzels, and chocolate.

New twists on old favorites

And though these two new flavors do bring a whole new level of chunks to the already chunky ice cream brand, they also bring some very familiar Ben & Jerry's flavors to the freezer aisle. These new flavors seem to be playing into (and getting creative with) some classic Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavors, rather than spinning new flavors whole cloth.

This isn't the brand's first go at a S'mores ice cream, for example. The flavor Gimme S'more! Was introduced in 2018 though it took a more traditional approach to the nostalgic dessert. PB S'more, on the other hand, adds a peanut butter twist to the treat, merging the joys of both Gimme S'more! and the brand's classic Peanut Butter Cup ice cream. The treat also expands on Ben & Jerry's repertoire of marshmallow-flavored ice creams, which also includes the scoop shop exclusive Marshmallow Sky.

Meanwhile, Impretzively Fudged is a new twist on Ben & Jerry's use of pretzels, which has featured heavily in many of their classic flavors, such as the staple Chubby Hubby, which has a vanilla malt base, fudge-covered pretzels, and fudge and peanut butter swirls. Like Chubby Hubby, Impretzively Fudged also features fudge-covered pretzels, however, it cuts out the peanut butter and vanilla malt aspects, creating a more simplified, but just as delicious ice cream.

The origin of Ben & Jerry's chunky flavors

Ben & Jerry's was founded in 1978 in the town of Burlington, Vermont by Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. From its origins as a relatively small ice cream stand in New England, the brand has grown to become an iconic and well-beloved ice cream brand, known for its creatively-named, rich indulgent flavors bursting with toppings and mix-ins.

Those chunky, chewy additions — which include everything from classics like nuts and hot fudge to more experimental mix-ins like cannoli shells, churro pieces, and fish-shaped fudge — have become a signature of the brand, and it's all thanks to co-founder Ben Cohen. Ben & Jerry's explains that Cohen lacks a sense of smell, and has only a small sense of taste. For this reason, chunks were added to give textural interest in the frozen food. And it's the chunks that have made the ice cream incredibly enjoyable and beloved.

The two newest flavors play into this adored feature of the brand; there is no doubt that PB S'More and Impretzively Fudged are incredibly chunk-forward, with PB S'more offering some extra large chocolate peanut butter cups for ice cream aficionados to enjoy.
