Experience

Hailing from Atlanta, GA, Dean got his journalism start in Poughkeepsie. In this diverse community, he tried and reported on everything from French-Jamaican fusion to Oaxacan Mole to farm-to-table upstarts — everything, that is, except good barbecue. At Chowhound, Dean continues his search for adequate barbecue and writes about new takes on old recipes. He was the managing editor for Vassar College's The Miscellany News, one of the oldest independent newspapers in the country. As a professional writer, he has contributed to Gotham Gazette, a political paper in New York City, and the Albany Times Union's Hudson Valley section.

Education

Dean has a B.A. in American studies from Vassar.
