We tried Zinneken's on the outskirts of Harvard Square. Hopefully it will close soon and something useful like a good deli will go in there (one can always dream).
We went on a week day morning. We walked in around 8:40a, and even though they were supposed to have opened at 8a the staff seemed pretty discombobulated. One of the two people working there bolted out the door as soon as we walked in. He returned awhile later with Dunkin Donuts coffee for himself and his coworker. I guess this tells you everything you need to know about Zinneken's coffee.
We ordered two waffles, one plain and one with Belgian chocolate. Even though there was on other party in there we waited over 25 min for the waffles. I finally told them we had a baby with us (in case they couldn't see) and would have to take a refund and leave. He told me it would be 2 minutes. 15 min more later the waffles arrived with the offer of a free coffee (insert your own joke here). The waffles weren't worth waiting 5 minutes for let alone 40. They were oddly chewy and the chocolate tasted cheap and gritty. Maybe 40 minutes isn't enough time to cook a waffle?
I would say this place needs to get its act together, but even if they did the signature waffles still suck, so just avoid it.
