Went to York beach over Labor Day Weekend. Stayed in a cabin about a block from Long Sands Beach. The cabin had a small kitchen, which aside from storing wine was never used ;-)

First, lunch at "Barnacle Billy's" in Perkins Cove at Ogunquit. Two words: stay away. I mean far away. The worst most overpriced food of the trip. They wanted 12.99 for a tuna salad platter. A tuna salad platter? 12.95 for a lobster roll at an unknown establishment didn't sit well with me. So I opted for the crab salad roll (a "steal" at 7.95). It was horrible. All shredded and no chunks. I think it might have been canned crabmeat. They also thought it would be nice to dump paprika on the clam chowder. Huh? Also, on the wall of the ordering area, they have a framed glowing review of the place...from *1981*. Stay away from this place.

Dinner at Chef Mimmo's Italian restaurant in York. For some unknown reason, my husband wanted Italian...in Coastal Maine? Blasphemous, I tell you. Anyway, I can't really recommend this place. They messed up my veal marsala and the red sauce on the spaghetti wasn't that good. Also, my son had meatballs that tasted like hamburgers and had the same consistency. Yuk. I hate that. Also, it's BYOB and we didn't, so I couldn't get a glass of chianti with dinner.

Dinner at the Tavern at the Inn at York Beach. I would go back again. Nice ambiance. Upper scale tavern atmosphere. The seafood chowder was excellent with nice plump sea scallops, shrimp and crabmeat. I got the crabcake appetizer for my entree. With a zippy remoulade sauce, it was good. They serve fresh popped popcorn from an old fashioned popcorn cart while you wait - cute.

Desert at Browns Ice cream near Nubble Light House - perfect as always - Maine Blueberry ice cream.

Last but not least, lunch at Bob's Clam Hut in that Outlet Village hell that is Kittery. Thanks to the person on this board who recommended this place! Everything was perfect! (with the exception of that annoying yuppie who argued with me over an outdoor table in the rain - we were there first) The lobster roll was fantastic! The fried clams were excellent! The tartar sauce was awsome! Even the french fries were great. I only wish I had room for the scallops. Oh well, maybe next time. And there will be a next time.

I'd like to make a recommendation to anyone who goes up to York. Make a trip to the Stonewall Kitchen in York. They sell all kinds of kitchen stuff, cookbooks and condiments. But you can sample *all* the condiments! I must have tried 20 kinds of jellies, and 15 different kinds of savory relishes and chutneys (served on little crackers), 8 kinds of mustard (served on pretzel sticks), in addition to salad dressings, bbq sauces and homemade granola (!) I swear I was full when I left there. I bought some nice sundried tomato with black olive relish and a jar of mango chutney.
