I will be staying in the Four Corners area of Sonoma this weekend with a group of 4. We plan to spend Saturday wine tasting and have a car service reserved for 5 hours. I have been to the Russian River Valley before and, personally, would prefer to spend all my time there or in the Dry Creek area. I like wineries that produce nice quality, smaller batches of wine and I don't want to spend my time tasting wines that I could just go and pull off the shelf from my local Safeway store. I do not like wineries that value image over substance. Our group likes all kinds of wines--from Sauv Blancs to Cabs to Zins to Pinots.
That being said, I feel that because we have the car for only 5 hours we have a limited travel range. A friend in the Bay Area recommended some wineries to me that sound great (Gary Farrell, Merry Edwards, Lynmar Estates, Copain, Rosenblum, Rafanelli), but I believe they're too far with the time constraints we have. I am trying to find wineries within 20-30 minutes of where we'll be staying that meet the above criteria.
I would appreciate any guidance you can offer. Thanks.
