Wine Gums and Fruit Pastilles

Slow Foodie | Jun 11, 200405:56 PM

I am crazy for these and always when someone goes to Heathrow I beg for a big bag. I was thrilled to find big tubes of Fruit Pastilles at the 99 Ranch Market. They have both mixed fruit and black currant (my favorite) flavor. This is a Nestle brand. I have never seen Nestle Pastilles in Europe so I presume they are packaged for Asia. They are delicious and nice and soft. In years past, if I were desperate for Wine Gums and no one was travelling, I'd get them at the Irish Import store but they were never very fresh and there's nothing more miserable than a hard wine gum. Last night I was pleased to discover small boxes of relatively fresh wine gums and fruit pastilles @ $2.99 at the new India Sweets and Spice shop in Los Feliz.

For those of you who aren't familiar with these candies, they are similar in texture to DOTS or JUJY FRUITS but, IMHO, much more flavorful. That said, I would be happy to find a source for nice FRESH JUJY Fruits, or even Black Cows.
