went to watergrill last sat for an early mothers day dinner with the SO and had a nice meal.
for starter, i had the dungeness blue crab cake, and tasted the peeky toe crab salad.
my main was a barramundi and she had the halibut two ways. both dishes were well prepared and tasty.
normally i stick to appetizers but i didnt want to break the ordering norm of the rest of our party.
our dinner at providence a couple months before was quite different. a little too cute, trying a little too hard. dishes with meyer lemon were overwhelmed with candied lemon flavor. our tai snapper was overcooked. flavors didnt meld right.
while providence might be more cool with an MFA from art center or ucla, watergrill has a phd in the classics and is a little more self assured preparing solid dishes.
on another note. my favorite seafood meal of the week was at bi feng tang in monterey park. two of us shared a 3 pound garlic chili crab, a 3 pound lobster done with ginger and scallion, a roast duck over tofu and a delicioius chinese broccoli with dried fish. with seafood, the chinese just dont mess around...
