I had the outstanding flat iron steak frites at Vlora last night and, apologies to Petit Robert and Brasserie Jo, I think it might be my favorite steak frites in the city.
The flat iron steak is thin, cooked perfectly medium rare, juicy, nicely seasoned, a bit charred on the outside: perfect for the dish.
The frites are not that special, but better than Gaslight's prefab frozens. I also think it's nice that the give you ketchup without asking and without spitting in your food.
Grilled calamari appetizer was flavorful and tender. Filet of sole also nice. All in all, I think I'll definitely be back to Vlora. We also managed to get through dinner without being shot, stabbed, locked inside or otherwise assaulted.
