We're visiting from Brooklyn in September and have 5 days and 5 nights. Our main goal is to eat through the diverse landscape of LA's immigrant/"ethnic" cuisine (pardon the shorthand; I know it's not the best descriptor)—especially the stuff we are missing in NY.
We're most interested in Mexican, tacos, Viet, and dim sum, but we're also curious about Thai, Korean, and maybe Lebanese. And we love seafood. We're not looking for:
—DTF, Taiwanese, Japanese (we go to Taiwan/Japan every 2-3 years, but have never been to LA and likely won't be back for a while)
—Euro-centric and all-American foods like gastropubs, Italian, pastrami, steak, chicken and waffles (we love these things, but this trip is about diversity)
—Fine dining (we've eaten at the best of them, but aren't interested for this trip)
—Sichuan, Korean BBQ (we have these in great quality at home, but we could probably be swayed for the right place)
—Tex-Mex (just not my thing)
1. Can you take a look at our list and make recommendations of cuts/additions? We only have 10 meals.
2. We've heard of the storied LA traffic. What are the chances that we could, say, make hit several taco trunks, say, for one meal? Are the distances/driving times too great to make this reasonable? What's the general game plan for taco hopping?
3. Related, how long should we expect for the drive to Little Saigon from Echo Park? People have really terrified us regarding traffic.
4. Best spot for weird/interesting ice cream flavors?
Night + Market Song
Golden Deli or Pho Filet or Pho Thanh for pho?
Sapp Coffee Shop or Ruen Pair or Pa Ord for Thai noodles?
MEXICAN/TACOS (can we hit more than one at a time?)
Colonia Taco Lounge
Mexicali Taco & Co.
Carnitas El Momo
Ricky's Fish Tacos
Considered but didn't make the list
Jitlada (seems expensive and like it has mixed reviews lately), Chengdu Taste, Tusjita, Kogi, Marouch, Attari Sandwich Shop, Meals by Genet, Mantee Cafe, Park Barbecue, Newport Tan Cang Seafood, Rocio's Mole des los Dios, Jeon Ju, La Casita Mexicana, Chichen Itza
Apologies for the length! I'm trying to be thorough.
