Visit to Spices Thai Cafe Mira Mesa San Diego

MY wife, daughter (toddler) and I went to dinner at Spices Thai Cafe on Mira Mesa Blvd tonight.

Bottom line...good, but not worth recommending.

We had the fried spring roll appetizer (free with internet coupon) and the "Angel Wing" appetizer (forcemeat-stuffed boned chicken wing). Both were pretty good. The chicken wing was a little meaty (very pork-ey filling) but tasty.

I had the "spicy noodle" with bbq pork, and my wife had the green chicken curry. I had a spice level 7 (of 10) and she had a 3.

The noodles were decent; flat rice noodle, basil, sprouts. Not much else; undercooked red and green pepper, and the "BBQ pork" was more like a thin sliced roast pork loin-- very lean. Also not as spicy as Id like, but that's a matter of taste.

The curry was also decent; chicken, bamboo shoots, basil, peas and carrots (sliced in cubes, like the frozen kind...my wife & I just hoped they were fresh). Not spicy at all.

Ambiance was nice; booths and dark interior. Not a bad place for a meal. All in all, good, but not great. Will I be back? No. We will more likely go to Amarin Thai; a little cheaper but slightly better food (not as nice ambiance).

Total cost, inclluding a soda and a Singha, tax & tip, $40.
