(Vegetarian/vegan): Good experience at Au Lac in Fountain Valley

Ravi Narasimhan | Jan 19, 200301:30 AM

Appetizer: Spring rolls (4). Large, well-stuffed with many contrasting ingredients; carrots, cabbage, some kind of faux meat. Generous helpings of peanut and tangy/hot dipping sauce

Soup: Sauteed soy beef with vermicelli noodles. Ordered regular size, expecting a cup. Got a very big bowl of aromatic soup. Soy beef had a slightly nutty flavor (very nice), subtly flavored broth, good helping of greens, and no stinting on the vermicellu

Entree: Crispy mushrooms. The sauce here was a little on the sweet side but the large mushrooms were very well prepared, crunchy and fragile. Asked for very spicy but the dish was on the mild side.

Dishes are attractively presented. Restaurant was very full with reservations for the weekend raw food meal seatings but the service was attentive and courteous, nevertheless. Took leftovers home as the size of the portions took me by surprise. Server carefully packed the food as opposed to just leaving the cartons as so many restaurants now do.

$27 including tax and a generous tip. Will definitely go back.
