Vancouver trip with 9 year old daughter

newbie5 | May 17, 2011 09:41 AM

I am taking my daughter to Vancouver in September for the Taylor Swift Concert. We are going to be staying at the Pan Pacific Hotel. She is a pretty adventurous eater and can tolerate mildly spicy foods. She LOVES japanese food, italian and seafood. I'm pretty excited for the trip as it is our first mother/daughter trip and I get to try some new restaurants as her dad is not as adventurous eater as she is. We are flying down on Friday night, although may be staying with friends in Surrey for the night and heading into downtown Vancouver on Saturday morning. We'll likely do some shopping along Robson during the day on Saturday, go back to the hotel to get ready for the concert and go out for dinner beforehand. The concert is at 7 pm.

I'm looking for recommendations for a good lunch spot on Saturday and dinner before the concert. I was thinking of a japanese spot for lunch, either around the Pan Pacific Hotel or in the area of Robson. I prefer a spot with a good bento box as we like to be able to share lots of different items. Neither one of us are huge eaters but like lots of variety when we go out for japanese. We usually split a bento and get one or two more items, depending on the contents of the bento. And always an extra miso soup as it is one of my daughters faves. I was looking at Miyako Sushi, which seems close to the Pan Pacific. A few other places I was considering are Miku, Guu, Kingyo and Shuraka Sake Bar, but am unsure if those restaurants fit my location or bento box requirements.

As for dinner, I was wondering if there are any spots either close to the Pan Pacific or the Rogers Arena that has a good prix fixe menu as we'll be dining around 5 pm. I was considering Chambar as it is close to the Rogers Arena. Of course, I'm looking for a place that will be accomodating to a child. She rarely orders off the kids' menu and I will likely look at a meal for us to share with perhaps an extra appy...not sure how restaurants view people sharing if I do find a good restaurant with a prix fixe menu.

Thanks any recommendations/help that you can give!!
