Val's day in Bklyn

So I'm taking a day off next Thursday. My husband got laid off recently and we were thinking of having a very low-key but pleasant day to ourselves. We live in Carroll Gardens and thought of doing a sort of "Brooklyn Appreciation Day": taking a walk into Red Hook to see the waterfront which will soon change due to the arrival of Fairway, then maybe walking up to DUMBO and stopping for a cup of chocolate at Jacques Torres... but a trip to Brighton Beach with a stroll on the boardwalk (I love the melancholy of the ocean in winter) and a Russian meal is also on the table. We will probably conclude with a low-key dinner at (maybe) Ferdinando's or that BBQ joing in Cobble Hill (husband's idea)... then home for dessert (homemade, I'm still undecided but will have no problem coming up with something, I'm sure).

What do you think? Any better ideas?
