Went out to dinner on new years day and had a fantastic meal at Ouest. Smoked sturgeon app, with poached egg, frisee & lardons was perfection on a plate. smoked duck app. and a bowl of jerusalem artichoke with lobster garnish was heavenly. raspberry coupe and espresso sundae were awesome.
We then walked to Grom and there was no line (it was 30 degrees...) so we popped in to see what all the fuss was about...after 3 tastes of icy chunked gelato I settled for the zabilgone, small cup, $5.13 for one of the worst frozen desserts ever. texture of soft polenta with a mild marsala wine taste. 2 bites in and it was tossed into the garbage.
overhyped! too bad beard papa was closed for the day...il laboratorio has the top honors still for the best gelato in the city...imo.
