Update on 4 Triangle Restaurants

Hey all! Happy holidays!

I have recently gotten to enjoy some very good eating in the last several days courtesy of my boss, my family, and a good friend in town. Just wanted to share:

Lunch at Panzanella in Carrboro: My first trip there. My boss got the flounder sandwich special and it was amazing. I had no idea that flounder could be so thick, for one. Superbly cooked, and delicious remoulade sauce accompainment. I had the Italian sandwich. I know - yaddi yaddi yah... what is so special about that? The quality of the meats were outstanding. We both got fries for the side. The fries were extra crispy (which I love, but did not ask to be cooked that way), and the bread for the sandwiches were toasted perhaps a little too long, but still very nice. I would only say that if you don't like your bread too toasty, or your fries too crispy, you might say so to the waiter since both of ours were cooked that way.

Lunch at Saxapahaw General Store: Top, top notch yet again. There were 5 of us getting a combination of lunch or brunch items. I had the blackened tuna special over a rice & beans type mixture and it was excellent. It packed some heat, but wasn't explosive to the taste buds. Mom's shrimp & grits were amazing, as were all the vegetables on the other plates.

Dinner at Fraziers in Raleigh: First time I had been since it was remodeled and I can't say enough good things about it. I'll be back again soon. The attention to detail was superb in both the crafted cocktails, and entrees. Lemon Ginger Martinis were a huge hit, as my seared salmon over cream lentils was wonderful. My friend had braised short ribs with collards and they were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Another plus? The price point dropped since the remodel. Very, very, very nice.

Sunday lunch at Vivace: Chicken Saltimbuco Panini for me and Grilled Chicken Baby Spinach Salad for my friend. The Plus here is $10 bottomless mimosas! Whooo Hooo! Panini was wonderful and the chicken on the spinach salad was moist, plump & flavorful - and the salad serving was large. Creamy pumpkin-raisin gelato for dessert.

I'd say the highlights were Fraziers and Panzanella. I really don't know how they made sandwiches taste so amazing, but my hat's off to the Panzanella chef on that one. Fraziers: run, don't walk. High marks!
