Unofficial "Support your Favorite Chinese Restaurant" Day

jenn | Apr 10, 200301:10 PM

Are you fed up with SARS paranoia?

Do you find it astonishing that anyone living in the 21st century could think they would contract SARS from eatting in a Chinese restaurant in Los Angeles?

Are you worried about the well being and future of your favorite Chinese restaurant?

Last week we had a friend cancel a long planned trip to a the Islamic Chinese restaurant out of fear of SARS. Given the amount of business between LA and China, anyone on the street might have just flown in after being exposed to the virus in China but this person was just avoiding Chinese people and restaurants. As if a virus is picky about such things.

Alas, given last night's broadcast on NBC, and things I've heard from other parts of the country, it appears our friend is not the only one ignoring hard scientific research in favor of rumor and innuendo.

IMHO, the willful ignorance on SARS is appalling, especially among educated people who ought to know better. The WHO website and the CDC website plainly state that close contact, like sharing a home, french kissing or being a healthcare worker caring for someone with SARS is how one contracts SARS, not eatting in Chinese restaurants. Yet around the country foolish people are avoiding a good meal.

So, in support of all those small Chinese restaurant owners we know, love and would hate to lose, lets make this Friday the unoffical SUPPORT YOUR FAVORITE CHINESE RESTAURANT day!!!! Pick your favorite Chinese restaurant, kidnap your friends and family and show your support!

To show our support, we will be at either Din Tai Fung or Homestyle for lunch with shopping at 99 Ranch to replenish our supplies after. Anyone have any suggestions for dinner?

And if anyone is curious about SARS, they should go to the CDC website or the WHO website for SARS. I've attached links.
