I'll say it again-Umbria is a hidden gem!

I reported on this little restaurant a while ago and thought I would again since we just ate there. I surprised my wife by taking her out to eat Saturday night for a relaxing respite from Thanksgiving (which is a loud, multi-family affair with us).

Umbria is on Germantown Ave. in Mt Airy just down the street from McMenamins and NXNW, if you blink you'll miss it. For apps. my Italian crepe soup was delicious as was my wife's grilled portobello's with a garlic-horseradish dipping sauce. My spicy Thai style rack of lamb was excellent, only problem was it was not done med-rare as promised (waitress immediately offered to bring a new dish but I declined and ended up giving us dessert for free). My wife's striped bass with mussels was also very good but the sauce it was in was a tad too salty.

The creme caramel for dessert was a very good homemade flan. 2 apps, 2 entrees and dessert (free) and coffee was a very reasonable $57. Add the fact that I brought a 1990 Ceretto Barbaresco (what a wine! yes it's BYOB))along with the good jazz soundtrack and it was a very enjoyable meal. I then took my wife to the Keswick to hear the '70's Latin/rock band War. They were awesome and a great ending to a great evening.
