Trip Report-Miami near the Doral

SuzzyQ | Feb 7, 2005 09:54 PM

We stayed at the Doral in north Miami for a few days and wanted to escape the hotel food. Thanks to Mario who responded to my request on this board for suggestions, we had a delicious meal at Monseratte, a Columbian restaurant about a five minute drive from the hotel. We had arepas, beef empanadas with two great sauces, tomato based and cilantro based, Columbian style beef steak (with onions and tomatoes), the most wonderful fried whole fish, Chilean wine and some pretty good desserts (rice pudding, figs with caramel, and flan). The whole meal was about $45.
We also had a very nice northern Italian meal at Chef Sammy's, located next to Monseratte. A bit fancier than it's neighbor (white tablecloths), the food was tasty and the owner/manager and other staff members were warm and welcoming.
