Tricks of the trade that make no difference...or do they?

Do you always put the shiny side of aluminum foil towards the food when you cover it, so the heat reflects better back into the food? Do you push the plastic lid down extra firmly when you close the can of coffee, so that a slight vacuum is created which will help keep the coffee fresher? Or so you think...do these little tricks really make any difference or are these the actions of an obsessive compulsive cook? Sometimes I think we cooks go through behaviors like these that make us think we are doing good, but really don't make an iota of difference.
