Traveling Toddler Takes On San Diego

PayOrPlay | Jul 9, 2004 01:58 AM

Since I have some business at Comic-Con (late July), my wife and I decided to make it into a long family weekend and bring along PayOrPlay Jr. (now 2-2/3 yrs. old). We'll be driving down from LA and staying at the Hilton resort in Mission Bay.

You know how lots of parents on this board describe their little ones as "Chow-Pups," "well-behaved," "restaurant-savvy," and the like, whether they really are or not? Well, you won't catch us saying that. He is the joy of our lives and charming and smiley and has largely evolved past the terrible-two phase, but one thing he's still not good at is sitting still for a long time in one place--especially restaurants. So we do a lot of take-out and when we do take him out we try to steer him toward places like the Farmers Market or Koreatown Galleria where there's good food and lots of diversions and noise and some tolerance for his "explorations." Leading to our questions:

1. Are there any high-quality food courts or other places in America's Finest City where POP Jr. can be himself while his parents get some decent food without disrupting everyone else's meal?

2. Alternatively, how about good take-out options for dinner (especially near Mission Bay) if we get tired of Hilton room service?

3. And, is there any decent food to be found at San Diego's many must-see attractions for the diaper set--LegoLand, SeaWorld, the Wild Animal Park, the Zoo, elsewhere in Balboa Park? (We are Chowhound enough that the answer to this question might actually help us decide which ones to visit!)
