Our area's first Trader Joe's - with an attached wine store - is opening in two weeks. Coincidentally, I'm planning a wine tasting in three weeks.
I've never been to a TJ's, but I've heard about their cheap wines. So I'm thinking of a theme of "Trader Joe's Wine Values," plus some easy and interesting nibbles from TJ's to go with the wines.
But are there any great wine values from TJ's that would please experienced wine drinkers? We're not wine snobs - far from it - but our group has been together for 10 years, and we're spoiled by years of yummy and interesting wines at our tastings. Me, I really don't like cheap wines that have been overly smoothed and sweetened by excess oak. (Other members of our group don't mind so much.)
I've read about the Charles Shaw wines (aka Two Buck Chuck), and it sounds you have to be careful - my my Google research has implies that the quality varies wildly, depending on who actually supplies the liquid.
So, how are Charles Shaw wines this season? And are there any other TJ wine values that you can recommend? (Ideally, I'd like wines that are under $10-$12.)
