What to do with Tourists in the French Quarter

Margret | Aug 9, 200405:52 AM

There has been tons of posts re: recommendations for wonderful places to eat in NO and thanks to the responses to my question re: Christmas eats. However, this is our first time to NO and we will have no car! The people I'm going with are not especially adventurous and chowhoundish, if you know what I mean. It would be difficult for me to convince them to take a cab across town to a very local place to try out a place. I would do it in a split second..alas, I will need to come to NO again. OK, enough complaining. Here is my question. For people who is limited to the French quarter vacinity, what should be our strategy for 2 1/2 days of eating and not be too trapped in the tourist places. We'll be also taking the street car so places along the route would be ok too. For this trip, we will probably want to stay with more casual places but definitely want to have food indigenous to the south. Thank you so much for you help.
