Tortilla dough springback

I've been making my own flour tortillas using this recipe

It is tasty, but I've been getting a bit of dough springback, so despite how thin I am rolling out my tortillas, I'm ending up with a finished product that is thicker than I'd like. I am wondering if because the volumetric measurements are imprecise I am kneading too long on the occasions that I've needed to knead in extra flour to fix it when it is too sticky. Thoughts?
