Got a turkey sandwich for a friend from the Philadeli on South Street. Bland, with slow and rude service, $7.20. No wonder they're empty. Walked up a few blocks, craving a pulled pork sandwich, so tried Tommy Gunn's. More slow service. Got the large. Bun is charred on an electric hot plate, which gives it a strange taste/smell. Pulled pork is heaped on the bun. Plain meat, BBQ sauce on the side. Pork too dry, sauce too flat (more acid, less sugar, more heat, please). About the same price as the turkey sandwich. No cole slaw, tried to rescue it with Tabasco to no avail.
All in all, a very disappointing dining experience. I guess you should never trust an empty restaurant, which both places were. Or never trust a South Street eatery (don't get me started on the limp cardboard that is Lorenzo's).
