Tomales Bakery

Gordon Wing | Dec 29, 2005 10:21 PM

Stopped by a this little storefront in Tomales today on the way to Dillon Beach. I've heard some friends who live in the area talk about how it's their favorite bakery. Now I know why .... and look forward to making more stops here in the future. They were out of bread already and many of the morning pastries so we tried a few sweets: one was a caramel / chocolate tart thing and the other was a coconut chocolate tart thing. the shortbread base was still crisp and the nuts were wonderfully crunchy with a deep, complex caramel. The coconut thing had a soft filling layer - a bit like a praline pie - and the addition of toasted coconut, chocolate and some nuts, as well. Both were yummy - what a great sugar rush!
Heard that their breads are good - as well as almost everything they make. This is so much better than what I've had at the Bovine Bakery - they do run out of some things by mid to late afternoon apparently.
