Tito's Tacos - Why the hate?

Diamond Dog | Jun 3, 2005 06:34 PM

I posted on this board looking for a taco stand that had awesome fried tacos in OC. No one responded.

I read a thread on Tito's Tacos and most of you hated the place and did not talk favorably of the food.

Last night we had a get together and someone brought Tito's Tacos. We had to have our meeting first, so they sat in their car for 4 hours and were all cold.

I thought they were AWESOME! The shells were not premade (like Taco Bell) and I think fried fresh (its hard to tell though as they sat out for 4 hours). Thats my biggest requirement of a taco....fresh fried shells. Not greasy either. Crispy, yet chewy at the same time.

The beef was tender and had a great flavor and played off nicely with the corn taco shell flavor which had a strong corn flavor.

Lots of lettuce and bright orange cheese.

The salsa is not complex and usually I hate stuff that isnt flavorful, but it had a very strong tomato taste and I loved it for that. When you mix in the diced Jalepeno's its perfect and becomes complex and spicy!

Great size on the Tacos as well.

Tito's doesnt claim to make "authentic" Mexican food, rather they say they make tasty food. I would say this is 100% correct

I would think more people would like this place, especially when you consider these tacos only cost $1.35 or so.

Too bad its 40 miles away from me. I would go there all the time!

Anything like this in OC?
