This question's been asked here before, but it's been well over a decade, and the restaurants mentioned in that thread are now closed. However, you all did come through for that original poster, and I'm hoping you can come through for me!
We are, of course, devotees of Stanley Tucci's "Big Night." We have made a few timpanos ourselves, but neither of us has any particular Italian cooking chops, and the outcome has always been a bit disappointing for the level of effort. We would love to sample one made by someone who is good at it.
The only lead I have is for Del Posto, but I'm confused on whether or how it's really offered (the internet says "by request only" and I'm not sure how that works when the rest of their dinner offerings are all prix fixe/tasting menu), and if at all possible, we'd prefer a somewhat less over-the-top setting than Del Posto for our timpano quest.
