Bounced around downtown White Plains last night and I wanted to share my latest observations...Started at Antipasti, where I heard the 'Happy Hours' were picking up steam, and sure enough the business crowd came streaming in throughout the early evening...could have a lot to do with the beckoning Antipasti Bar...there were delectable free tastings being served including lovely cheeses with honey, crusy pizzas and delicious sliders...personable Chef Laakkonen was making some rounds...good looking crowd too.
Moved on down S. Broadway to Prophecy where there was a different vibe at play, not as many folk, but the friendly servers made sure to fill my request for an appealing appetizer platter with a tasty samplings of tuna tartare, duck quesadilla, and crab cakes...quite good though not as sophisticated with the wines. The late nite scene has been picking up here, especially on weekends and I understand they are booking many catered events. Latin nights are hot!
We had heard that there was live easy going music now on Thursday evenings at La Bocca on Church St. and sure enough owner Tony Spiritoso was there to greet us as we entered the pretty bustling dining room with its cozy bar...he loves to talk about his native Calabria and the Italian food basket...the next thing we know he brings out some special dried green Radicchio Pasta he had just gotten his hands on...it was like 'show and tell' back in elementary school...we had talented Chef Christian prepare a bowl with shrimp and cherry tomatoes and folks, the taste was terrific! Followed by a lovely trio of fresh desserts served artfully on a long white platter...also delicous! Good wine selection here too. Hospitable servers...lovely, lively crowd.
