Had dinner at Tanoreen this past weekend - great babaganoush (sp?), an eggplant napoleon and baby squash stuffed with spiced lamb, raisins and pignoli nuts cooked in a yogurt sauce accompanied with a pilaf and vermicelli rice dish - everything was great.
A previous meal I had a meze platter, grape leave stuffed with lamb and rice and baby eggplant hollowed out and stuffed with spiced lamband pignoli nuts - had posted it but it disappeared.
I had thought the food was Turkish but found out it was Lebanese.
Take the R train to 77th - walk one block over to 3rd avenue
Also tried the Mexican Sandwhich Company - had the duck confit and the brie+plum quesedillas. Both very good. The duck confit flavors were blurred while the brie+plum was more layered.
I wouldn't exactly call it mexican though but it was very good.
