A Tale of Two Cakes

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I made a post and I thought this was an excellent subject. Here we go!

The first cake happened to come into my hands when I went to a charity fundraiser. Someone had brought an entire cake from Nectar! Since I'd heard, um, less than flattering things on this board about their cakes I was hesitant. But it was for charity so I plunked down forty dollars and took it home. Note that I have no idea what it really costs.

However, even if it was only twenty dollars it was not worth it. It had a good flavor but was definitely dry. I would rate it as only okay. My friends said you could get just as good a cake at Co-op and I would regretfully agree. I think Nectar needs to concentrate on what they do well and stop trying to make cakes if this is the result.

The second cake was quite different! I was hosting a special party on Friday so I ordered up a cake from Yann Haute Patisserie. It was expensive, 52 dollars for a cake that would serve 8. But oh so good. I mentioned that I liked their passionfruit mousse so I ended up with a cake with a lovely chocolate base and a thick layer of passionfruit mousse. I loved it although my sister wasn't thrilled. But you can't please everyone. XD It tasted like it was worth every penny. I also picked up some lovely little rum and custard things, they were delicious!

I'm very sad about Nectar but very happy we have something like Yann's to replace it.
