Taku review (longish)

Went to Taku on Saturday with a group of 8 of us and had a great all around experience. Had to admit that when we easily got an 8:00 reservation for 8 people on a Saturday upon calling Friday, we were a bit concerned that perhaps something was off, and sure enough, the place was not overly crowded. After eating, I can't figure our why. We shared a bunch of apps which were all excellent. Some nice tuna hand rolls, veggie spring rolls with a spicy dipping sauce, good chicken wings, probably the best gyoza I've ever had, a watercress salad, and edamame. The entrees were universally excellent, as well. 3 of us had the hangar steak. It came sliced, cooked perfectly with a nice, crispy charred exterior and moist center with some baby bok choy and onion rings. 2 had the berkshire pork, also cooked perfectly with some spinach-esque greens. 2 had some ramen done nice and al dente with a tasty broth with all kinds of pork and veggies. the last entree was bass, which I did not try, but my friend loved. we also had a couple of bottles of some good sake. we decided to bring dessert home from Sweet Melissas, but received a free pot de creme when they overheard us alluding to one of our birthdays. a nice touch. overall an excellent meal, good service, and again, can't figure out why it was not more crowded.
