Tagine review

I've never written a review on Chowhound but I was treated to dinner tonight at Tagine, an intimate Moroccan restaurant in Beverly Hills and it was such a wonderful experience I had to share it. My friend and I had the tasting menu. I had not been to Tagine before and I was very pleasantly surprised. It was terrific. Our server,Youssef (sp?), couldn't have been more warm and wonderful. He described each dish and really cared about whether we enjoyed everything. He was low-key, but always seemed near when we needed him.

Marinated olives, hummus, roasted eggplant puree was placed on the table with warm pita.


Soup - Tomato base with chick peas, lentils

Bastilla - Filo stuffed with chicken and almonds and topped with powdered sugar

Salad - Romaine lettuce, cucumber, beets, feta cheese w/ a light olive oil & cumin dressing

Salmon with a fig, currant sauce w/ mashed potato

White fish sauteed with scallops and shrimp with lentils with a light sauce

Lamb chops grilled with a small patty of spiced ground beef and cauliflower

Couscous with vegetables

Dessert - Baklava w/ apple slices and strawberries

Mint tea

We had a wonderful Moroccan white wine, Ksar.

Every dish was excellent, light, fresh, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully presented. Tagine is so easy to miss. It's a small space on busy Robertson just north of Wilshire, but once inside you'll forget about the traffic outside and everything else. It's a very romantic, serene environment - dark with lots of candles and very comfortable banquette seating. The ingredients were top notch. I can't wait to return and introduce my friends to this gem.
