Was riding home today down 8th St, and out of the corner of my eye I saw a food truck with the window wide open parking on the south side of Washington Ave, between 8th St and Passyunk Ave. Being a chowish mood, I circled back to investigate.
Turns out this is a taco and torta truck. I'm in this area pretty frequently and never noticed it before, but I don't really know how new it is.
I tried three tacos--beef steak, beef tongue, and vegetarian. The meat ones were definitely good; properly seasoned and served simply. No better than any other good taco but tasty. The vegetarian one was really nice: refried black beans, topped with lettuce tomato onion and a good amount of oaxaca cheese. All were $2 a piece and portions were very generous.
There was a bit of a language barrier, but I was able to meet halfway with the women working. Apparently they are there 6 or 7 days a week, from 11am to 10pm. There is no signage beyond the menu, but they told me the name of the truck is Mi Pueblito. I asked if they were affiliated with the grocery store of the same name around the corner on Passyunk, and they told me, I think, that they used to be but no longer are.
Anyone else been here and have recs or opinions? They had some other specialty tacos (I think one was called the al hombre?) and I'm curious about the tortas.
