Tonight was my first visit to The Broken Record, on Geneva Ave in the Excelsior/Outer Mission. I liked it a lot. The bar is up in the front room, and in the back room there's a counter to order food. I had the bacon burger, which consisted of two patties (with bits of bacon in them) cooked medium, along with cheese, ketchup, pickles and mayo. The burger was definitely on the greasy side (it slid out of the bun on the first bite), but was also very juicy and flavorful. Dining companion had Texas toast, with chicken and gravy - the bite I had was good, definitely comfort food. But the best part of the meal was the sweet potato tater tots, which I thought were really really good. They came with ranch dressing and ketchup, and the serving was large (and a good deal at $5). Nicely fried with a crisp exterior and a piping hot interior, but not too big or mealy (my biggest complaint about normal tater tots, which I'm not usually a fan of).
There were about 6-8 beers on tap, the jukebox was free (at least on Sunday), and there was a very nice back patio with some picnic tables. Overall, a great bar for a Sunday dinner, whether it's a cold day or a sunny one.
