Sushi in Van Nuys, Who Knew?!

Working in Van Nuys with a limited 45 min lunch break and a mad craving for Sushi I found a little joint in the Yahoo yellow pages called Sakura Sushi on Woodman and Roscoe. Small place, several tables and a nice sized bar. I ordered a lunch special, three spicy tuna handrolls for $9.95 with Miso Soup. The rolls were the largest I've ever seen, fish was fresh, garnish tasty. My companion ordered some of the specialty rolls which were between $9.95 and $12.95 which were very good. I also had a order of Salmon Sashimi which was buttery and quite fresh and with Ponzu Sauce (my fave) quite delish.

Downside was for a busy lunch place, they only had one Sushi Chef, and service was a little on the slow side. Not sure if this was business as usual or they were short-handed. On the upside, while we waited the chef comp'd us some little mushroom dumplings in a light peanut sauce excellent!

Location is right across the street from Kaiser.
