Surya - Vegetarian Indian in London NW6

A little gem that looks like it's on its last legs (sorry for the mixed metaphor).

Had read about it in The Curry Guide...stickers all over door attest to its being a member of The Curry Club, that it has received various awards, etc. One of the reviews indicated that it was hard to find a table in this little place...

And...the food was fantastic, served by very attentive staff. Perhaps the reason they were so attentive is because on a Thursday evening, the place was totally empty. Just one other table of four. We had a huge Masala Dosa (their version of a savory crepe) and pakora for starters; mains (which are priced, oddly, lower than starters - some of the mains are below £2!): sag (spinach) curry; sambhar - lentils with tamarind; poories (spicy stuffed bread)and a vegetable curry. Plus rice and drinks...and the meal was just over £10 each. The food was pretty spicy, not greasy or gloppy. They have daily specials (i.e. Tuesday is pumpkin curry day; Friday is banana curry day - those are the only two I recall) is indeed located on a desolate road - Fortune Green Road - by no means dangerous or anything, but when I say desolate, I mean 'boring' (no shops! and not many other restaurants) But Surya has evidently been there for several years (and the road has probably always been pretty ).

Has anyone else eaten there (simon? Anil? Howler?) - anyone with any insight? There *must* be a good reason for their lack of custom...I will have to try it again and see if the night I went was just a fluke.
